I recently encountered a post where someone in their 20s was looking for players but had an age limit in the post where no one over 28 years old was welcome to apply for the game.
I suspect that the forum would not allow posts where participation in the game was limited to members of a certain race, gender or sexual orientation. I could understand if a group of teenagers wanted only teenagers in their game. But I think once you are adults soliciting other adults to play, ageism should not be allowed, such as saying “no one over 30 should apply.”
I’m not sure why ageism remains acceptable but it is clear discrimination.
I think some people won't be comfortable. If you're a kid, and don't put a limit, then 50 year olds (if there are any) could play with them. Or adults wanting a heavily NON child-friendly campaign find out they have a 10 year old with them. Sure, it can make sense to not have the limit, but it goes back to the op: Some people won't be comfortable.

I dont think there is anything wrong with setting an age limit or range for a dnd group. Especially for something that isnt necessary for you to have.
Additionally, I think it would be perfectly reasonable to limit participation based on other factors (i.e. women-only, afro-only, ect)
As for the people who will inevitably argue "what about whites only?". You can probably already know why thats problematic so please try to understand that classically oppressed groups deserve a safe space.
D&D is a private free time activity. If I use this forum to search for gamers for my table, that is my rules. I wouldn't invite anyone to my place for my D&D group, I am not comfortable with. Yes, this is a public forum, and yes, it is about online gaming, but I can still chose who I am playing with.
And, in addition, when people, that do not write "no one over 30" but want "no one over 30" do an application review, they will probably still just tell you, that they do not want you in their group.
I agree with most people here, it is your private time, so you get too pick and choose who you want in your games or not. In my games, I accept anybody over 21. Why? Because it has been my experience that younger folks tend to be the murder hobo types IE they think they are playing Call of Duty and not D&D. On the other hand, older folks, especially older white men, tend to be creepy dudes so hence why some people want people under 30 at their tables. BTW I am 55, am I a creepy old white man? I do not know, but I do run 5 D&D campaigns (free) and so far none of my players have called me creepy. Well at least not yet lol.

I think there are traditional demarcations for age which are fine: if kids only want to play with kids, I think that’s acceptable. Or 18+ only or 21+ only, I think that’s fine. But after that, you are in a gray area. And it is a little like “why not? If you are 27, what’s wrong with playing D&D with someone who’s 38?” It’s like, it doesn’t make any sense in addition to clearly being age discrimination.
One of the other posters had a good point. The people can just weed out by age if they would like so you will have the same result. I was just really annoyed to see it there so boldly.
It’s not the end of the world but I don’t think it’s exactly cool either.
I agree. I think it should just be 18 +, or put under 18 (though I would never say 'hi, I'm 10 (I'm not actually) and want kids only in my group'). Just saying a general one is fine, but really specific is not so fun.

My personal thoughts are that people play D&D for fun, so should play with a group where they feel safe to play that game and enjoy themselves.
Sometimes that will mean that, for various reasons, there are people who you may not wish to role-play with and that is a valid choice and absolutely a good decision for you.
However, with that in mind, it is not acceptable to use the D&D Beyond forums/discord to post about games that exclude people, even if that is for the benefit of someone in the group.

Please consider prohibiting it on your forums.

Hi there everyone,
If just like to jump in with the official word, which is that D&D Beyond doesn't allow exclusionary posts - it's against our community policies.
