Pretty much the title. With the introduction of TCoE, we have officially been given rules for variant class features (rip artificers). With all of the homebrew tools we already have available, it doesn't seem unreasonable to me that we could see a tool for variant class feature homebrews. I feel like it would complement homebrew subclasses well too.
and as someone who plays an artificer, itd be cool to have some new toys like the rest of my party
They already implemented the tools for Optional Class Fratures just like in Tasha’s, but we can only use it for subclasses so far, we still can’t homebrew base class stuff yet.

Opening the door to Optional Class Features is a de facto route to homebrew base classes period. I think reasonable people may disagree on whether it's sound strategy or not, but it seems DDB, perhaps pertaining to its license with WOTC, is reluctant or cautious to open that door.
