When creating custom subclasses, I wish there was a way to enter a class feature that toggled on/off some abilities/attacks/immunities/resistances without them being either always on, or just a text description.
For example, if I want to create a 1ce/day feature that gives fire resistance for 10 minutes there doesn’t seem to be a way to enter that without the Modifier always being active, or not having a modifier at all and it’s only in the text description.
Is there any way to implement that type of design feature?
What about toggleable attacks, or other things? Is there any word on a timeline??
I ask because I am buttoning up the revised version of a subclass now that I understand the builder better. I have made the mistake of hitting “publish” and then noticing a mistake, or learning the better way to do the thing far too often. I don’t want to eventually have to republish again once I can make it work better after the option is installed. I would rather wait and get it right this time if I can. Any additional info is greatly appreciated.
They never give timelines. And I’m not sure that toggleble character options per se are in development. The UA that offers changes to base classes is, which would seem to be related, but there’s no guarantee that those changes will allow homebrew/custom toggles outside of those options. It would be great if they do, and I’m sure it’s planned eventually, I’m just not confident it will show up at the same time the UA class variants do.
Did you find a way to have a toggle feature? I am looking to do something similar. The only way I can think of is with magic items for each feature but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a subclass.
That’s still the current workaround. The other way you could fake it with “options.” Then the player could choose options in the builder to toggle them on and off.

Temporary/toggleable modifiers are planned (
I think they might even be in development), but not currently supported. So far official content with temporary effects have not used modifiers and were only text descriptions.
[Edit]I was getting them confused with boons.
Thanks for the quick response!!
