Hey all, I'm new to d&d and I don't make much money so buying a whole set of dice from my local game store (prices at $20+) is out of my budget. Is there a way for me to make my own dice set?
I recently bought a package of six sets (42 dice total) to give a set of dice to each to of the new players at the table for around 12€ (~14$) from Amazon. If your local store takes 20+$ for a single set, they are committing daylight robbery or are selling a super fancy set made of metal or stone.
You won't be able to make a set of dice for a few dollars unless you are a CNC expert, who pays no material costs and has access to machinery.
Welcome to the community man. But I would warn against attempting to make your own dice many people will assume they are weighted if you did which is a large no go at pretty much any table even if you had no idea how to go about it or it was even you attention i know many people that would immediately assume the worst about them.
Like DMGorani said check amazon you can get bulk dice on the cheap (skullsplitter which is a good brand 18 sets for $23 is on amazon) or check out sites like Kraken dice they sell top quality plastic sets for about 15 on average depends on sales and other factors but their dice is heavily kickstarter and designer focused so they tend to be a little pricey.
Manufacturing plastics are going to get pretty pricey once you get into mould making. Plus you are going to have a great deal of trouble getting them balanced, between air pockets and balanced sides. If you have access to a 3d printer then possibly you could get under the cost of a normal set.
I'd say your best bet is to probably pick up a set of plastic dice - you can get a mystery set for $7.90. I'm not sure crafting your own is going to get under that.
most of the dices I have are pure D20's from my MTG sets but I'm game to need the better dices too if I knew how to make them out of say stone or something I would but I know some places near me that sells dices for good prices if their not doing as other said before of robbery on poop quality dices

I think it was made of metal, I did ask if they had a set for a lower price but the guy said that's all they keep in stock

You can get something like 5 sets of polyhedral dice amazon for 10-12 dollars.
If you're really stuck see if your local rpg group have some they could lend you?
