Right now the PbP forum has both recruitment and game threads, and the game threads are significantly more active (thus pushing recruitment off page 1).
I propose the following:
Split recruitment and gameplay into two different forums (Play-by-Post Recruitment and Play-by-Post Gameplay)
Add an OOC discussion thread as well (in a third forum, or just put into the Gameplay forum as well)
Be able to "tie" the three threads together via some sort of navigation. So visiting the recruitment thread has a link to the gameplay and discussion thread, and visiting gameplay has a link to recruitment and discussion. Ideally you'd start a new PbP and it makes all the threads for you automatically and links them up.
Campaign permissions: can only post in the gameplay or discussion thread if the DM adds you to the campaign, and DMs can kick players out as well. Can have multiple DMs in a campaign
DM permissions: DMs can view post histories for all posts within their threads (although they cannot "roll back" posts made by others or otherwise edit them), to help catch cheating
And because I haven't mentioned them enough yet:
Ability to preview replies. This is crucial to be able to see dice roll results and manipulate the post accordingly without needing to post and then edit.
Ability to name/title spoilers. Nesting spoilers would also be cool (max depth of 3 would be fine).
One feature PBP really needs is a way to post using aliases. If you want to play as a character, it really helps if the name you're posting under is the name of the character and the profile image is one of the images from the character portrait library. It would be nice to have some generic ones (like a compass rose, a sailing ship, a path into the mountains) that a GM can use to make his posts pop visually and get people's attention.

This is already planned, I believe. The posting as aliases bit, that is, not necessarily stock images as your profile pic.
