Hi All I am new to 5e rules having played Basic, 1st edition and 2nd edition back in the day. I have currently made a fighter using the D&D Beyond character creation tool with a 14 constitution which gives him a +2 modifier bonus. However it is showing that he has 14 hit points on his character sheet. Should this not be 12 HP or do fighters also get their proficiency bonus added as well? Any feed back would be most helpful.
A 1st-level fighter with a CON score of 14 should have 12 hit points, yeah, unless they've got some feat or other feature that would change that. It could be a bug, but if you provide a link to the character, people can try to see if there's anything else going on that would affect your HP total.
It is likely that you set your HP type to Manual before choosing your class - if you do this then DNDBeyond assumes a rolled HP of 12. That is a bug. The simple fix is to change the Rolled HP box on the Class page of the builder to what it should be (10 in your case).
That said - without a link to the character - we can't know for sure whether that's the cause.
I can confirm it's a bug, and not just with Fighters... created a wizard and a sorcerer and the same thing happened. Starting a character with Manual HP seems to default to 12hp/1d12 (although it does not affect the actual hit die)

There's no need to confirm the manual HP bug. It's been known for a long time - but it has such an easy fix (for the player) that the priority to fix it (for the devs) is very low.
The question was just whether it applied to the OP's character or not.

Fair enough! The question about the possibility of a bug was brought up, so I went to see if it was actually a bug or not. I didn't take your "that is a bug" comment as it being a known bug, but rather a likely suspect in this instance.
Also a side effect of my job, heh. I'm usually brought on to IT rollouts where I work to see if I can find bugs and try to figure out what caused them, so I kind of default to actions like this when I see them, haha.

Is there a way to bump this up the priority queue? This thread raised the issue more than 2 years ago and it is still not fixed.
Some people are saying in other threads that the issue is caused by setting HP to manual before selecting the class, but the option to select the Hit Point Type is on the first tab of the character generation process and selection of the class is on the third tab (labelled "2. CLASS"). Considering the HP are on the "2. CLASS" tab of the character generation process and are not visible until the class has been selected, surely it would be easy to calculate the 1st level HP correctly?

Thank you for the explanation I do have my HP type set to manual so that explains it. I will reset it and see if that puts in the correct amount.

Yup, this issue is known and will be fixed.
It occurs if you set the hit points type to manual, prior to having selected a class.
This isn't an excuse - it's incorrect and needs to be fixed.

Pretty please, with sugar on the top :-)
