This was mentioned before - I have a similar situation. A character that had been in the campaign for awhile - the owner has gone off to do military stuff and can't get back to D&D Beyond (Restricted Access).
It would be cool if the DM had the option to "Unassign" characters so that someone else can resume the controls of that character. Or at the very least a "Copy" feature for the DMs of their own campaigns - that makes a duplicate of the character that can then be assigned (similar how someone can do of their own character) - so the person maintains ownership of the original and the copy can be reassigned.
Is there any hope of such a feature coming down the pipe line?
The owner of the character can choose to unassign it, which would allow others in the campaign to claim the character.
That character belongs to the person who created it though, and is part of their account - it would be bad practice to allow any situation where someone's character could be removed from their account without them being the one to make that decision.

Agreed - which is why I was thinking the "Copy" thing might be nice? Where (only the DM of the campaign) can make an "Unassigned Copy" of someone's character - so that the original remains with the original owner while the copy can be reassigned to someone else. And the DM can (if they wanted) "Deactivate" the original from the campaign (and "Reactivate" if needed later).

Original thread (Marked "Resolved") - I didn't want to Necropost it since it's a year old.
