I created a Bard recently and the Spellcasting Modifier appears to be wrong. It should be 7 (when calculating it using the Players Handbook, CHA + Proficiency) but the website is only showing it as 5.
This is directly from the D&D 5E book for Bard and there is no mention of Spellcasting Modifier anywhere, only Spell attack modifier (which I assume are the same thing). Are Spell attack modifier and Spellcasting modifier two different things?
Are you able to explain what the Spellcasting Modifier is used for since it does not appear in the D&D 5E book in any way? There are two of us looking and there is no reference of it.
The Spellcasting ability modifier is the modifier of you class spellcasting ability. The spellcasting ability is defined, for any spellcasting class, in the Spellcasting ability section, which I quote here below from the bard class
Spellcasting Ability
Charisma is your spellcasting ability for your bard spells...

The Spellcasting Modifier is only the CHA modifier for the Bard. It is not the Spell Attack Modifier.

Yes, as I said, they are not the same thing. The spell attack modifier appears on the spells for which a spell attack is needed.

The spellcasting ability is used for spells like Cure Wounds or Dispel Magic.
Thank you for the explanation, it's very much appreciated. Most of us in the D&D group are new so thought it was the same thing, this is a great help.
