RELEASE NOTES
Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen is a tale of conflict and defiance set during the legendary War of the Lance. Create characters from Krynn, the world of the Dragonlance setting, then march them to the front lines of battle against the terrifying Dragon Armies.
Please note, an errata document has been published with this release. You can also view a list of the changes via this forum post.
ENABLING CONTENT FOR YOUR CHARACTER
To use content from Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen in the character builder, you will need to set the character preferences to include the Dragonlance source category (see the .gif below).
By default it will be Enabled.
Syncing Entitlements
If you don’t see any of the content from the book (preorder bonuses or otherwise), please be sure to resync your entitlements. You can do so by following these steps:
Once completed, your content should appear! If you experience any issues with accessing your content please reach out to our Support Team.
CHARACTER OPTIONS: RACE
There is one new playable race: the Kender. It's available and fully playable on D&D Beyond!
CHARACTER OPTIONS: BACKGROUNDS
There are two new backgrounds available in Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen: Knight of Solamnia and Mage of High Sorcery. While both backgrounds are available in the character builder - each Background also grants one of the new Feats presented in this book. Unfortunately the system for automatically granting these feats isn't quite ready - so in the meantime, you manually add the Feat via the character sheet, as shown in the .gif below:
January 25th, 2023 Update:
Backgrounds now grant feats! If you already had a feat added manually (via the method above or through normal character creation), the Backgrounds section of the Character Builder will indicate that the feat has been taken. This is now available for Homebrew as well!
CHARACTER OPTIONS: FEATS
Feat Prerequisites
Feat prerequisites based on other feats is now available and enforced in the character builder! You always have the option to override those prerequisites by ensuring the "Use Prerequisites" option in the character builder for Feats is toggled to OFF like so:
Feats and Feat Options
I'm happy to say that the Feats presented in Dragonlance are all mostly supported - and with it, Feats (and more specifically Feat Options) for official content now function as expected. This means we no longer need the feats split up based on Ability Score as this is now handled via the feat itself. That being said, there are a few things to be aware of:
Divinely Favored
When you select the feat (either via the character builder or character sheet), you will see all of the alignment options, followed by the choice of Ability Score:
In the future, we intend to have the list of options cut down to just display the alignments, with a second option to pick your choice of spellcasting modifier.
Initiate of High Sorcery
The Initiate of High Sorcery has been split into three distinct feats: Initiate of High Sorcery (Nuitari), Initiate of High Sorcery (Lunitari), and Initiate of High Sorcery (Solinari) in order to support the Feat prerequisites for the "Adept of the..." feats. Each of these feats will allow you to choose between your choice of Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma - the choice made here will directly impact the subsequent "Adept of the..." feat.
Adept of the Black/Red/White Robes
When you add the feat, it will automatically prompt you to make a choice - however the choice that appears is the chosen ability score from the relevant Initiate of High Sorcery feat. If you do not see an option appear for any of the "Adept of the..." feats, please make sure you took the required Initiate of High Sorcery feat and selected an option within it.
Previous Books
In the past we've had to split out Feats due being unable to support the varying options that a Feat could present. Thanks to Feat options now being supported, we intend to go back and consolidate the previously split feats into single feats (wherever possible). How does this affect your character if you had one of the split feats? The good news is that your character (as well as the taken feat) will function like normal. However, when you go to the character builder, you will only see a single option. We've already done this with the Resilient feat from the Player’s Handbook, but intend to do this with all of the previous books.
January 25th, 2023 - We have consolidated feats from previous books. Anyonecurrently using one of the split feats will be able to keep using them without any issues!
CHARACTER OPTIONS: SUBCLASS
The Lunar Sorcerer subclass is mostly supported! There are a few things to be aware of:
Lunar Embodiment. If you wish to change your Lunar Phase, you will need to do so via the Character Builder.
Waxing and Waning. If you change your Lunar Phase after having cast the 1st-level spell (but before casting taking a long rest), the tracking for that phase's 1st-level spell without expending a spell slot will reset.
APPENDIX A: GEAR AND MAGIC ITEMS
Please note that in order to best deliver the Hoopak (as its both a melee and ranged weapon) we have created it as the following two weapons:
Both (along with the other mundane items) will be granted automatically when you purchase Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen.
APPENDIX C: SIDEKICKS
While there are a number of sidekicks included with this adventure, they are unsupported for this adventure. While there are plans for a Sidekick system in the future, there's no ETA at this time.
I cant seem to add the new backgrounds to a character in the builder (new or old) even though the book if fully unlocked for me and I can read it and enable it just fine
I mean it IS a bit misleading....On the digital pre-order page it says "The Dragonlance Digital & Physical bundles will unlock your digital copy 2 weeks early".
That can be easly misconstrued that you just need the Digital version in order to get the early access, at least in my opinion.
So I bought the Physical & Digital Bundle - back in October (24th). And I see the Dragonlance book under tools and have access to the content there.
However, when I go to create a new character, I do not see a KENDER option as a race. And I enabled Dragonlance content on that first page of the character sheet.
(Even checked under "Halfling" in case it was shoved/hidden there).
When I go to my account - I don't see it there as having been "purchased" in my history of things.
And I don't see the button to sync my stuff there either.
IDK if this helps but I think they should have sent you a code from the official DnD store? You would have to enter that code into the dndbeyond redeem thing.
Where or when do I get the key. I did the preorder but have yet to get a key. I checked in my order history and the early release is there but I don't see a key and I haven't received one.
I mean I'm just assuming you would need a key. The Official DnD store and dndbeyond are 2 different stores. When you buy the bundle that comes with the physical and the digital version it takes you to the official store. So logically speaking if you bought it there, it should give you a key code to put into dndbeyond to unlock the digital version. Also on the digital page on dndbeyond it has a "Already have a Key" link that takes you to the redeem section. I would check to see if it is somewhere in your account on the Official store Orr mabye they sent it to you in an email. Anything beyond that I have no idea Brother.
IDK if this helps but I think they should have sent you a code from the official DnD store? You would have to enter that code into the dndbeyond redeem thing.
Ah ha. Had to dig through my email and found the link for a code.
Going to register it and see if that fixes it. And... that did it.
If that is the case that is pretty shameful. It’s not like I’ve dumped hundreds of dollars and 60 a month…. Such a sham.
It's not a sham you have to read. The exact circumstances where you get it two weeks early were spelled out.
I don't necessarily think it was a cash grab or anything as I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but it is definitely misleading. Probably should have read somthing along the lines of "To get a 2 week early access to the digital version on Dndbeyond head over to the Official DnD Store to purchase the physical bundle". Or somthing, IDK. I'm not overly mad at this as I'm still getting what I paid for just a little bit later but I can see why people would be a bit miffed.
Also I'm pretty sure the digital stuff from the Dndbeyond store is non-refundable.
Not going to lie I am very Miffed at this. I am not going to be running for a refund though. I will be getting what I paid for, but dang it I have been a Dragonlance fan since it came out way back in the day, and ran many campaigns there. I was really looking forward to getting into it ASAP. I don't need the physical books as all my stuff is via digital book sets. Oh well, Live and Learn I suppose. But still, Shame Shame for misleading.

So i bought the digital version. Do I not get access today?
I'll 100% be wanting a refund if that's the case
You get access if you bought the Digital Physical Bundle. If you only bought digital you still have 2 weeks.
The Labeled poster map seems to be missing. The only one we have is small in comparison and does not have towns and such marked on it.
If that is the case that is pretty shameful. It’s not like I’ve dumped hundreds of dollars and 60 a month…. Such a sham.

100% missleading I imagine a large amount of people will be refunding as the black Friday sale starts soon. Clearly a cash grab from excited people
They really dropped the ball on the wording for the preorder. I’m mildly infuriated.

Is there a way to cancel my digital-only subscription so I can opt for the bundle and get early access?
