One of my players just created a new Paladin, level 3, with a Charisma of 17 (modifier = 3). Based on the PHB, he should be able to prepare 4 spells (CHAmod+1/2LVL rounded down = 3+1). However, the sheet only allows him to prepare two spells. I made a new character independently and observed the same result.
Is the sheet incorrect? Or am I reading the PHB incorrectly?
the layout isn't super obvious, but I expect that what you and your player are seeing is the spells that the character gets automatically prepared due to the subclass that they selected.
If you click on "KNOWN SPELLS" in the spells area, you will see that is says "Prepared spells 0/4" below it and you can click on the spells to prepare them.

Thank you, Stormknight. We're just learning to use the D&DBeyond interface, and that was less intuitive than I expected.
Onward to the campaign!
