Has wizards commented on when we will be able to play with homebrew subclasses? I'm assuming its being worked on!
Seems there's no way around it: you have to recreate your homebrew subclass with a 2024 class. Even third-party companies like Ghostfire Gaming (Drakkenheim, Grim Hollow) and Critical Role have to recreate the subclasses with 2024 classes if they want them to be used. From the OP post: "Note that many subclasses that have been published by our various Partners do not appear for the 2024 classes. We’re working with them to update their content for the new rules, but do not have an ETA for those releases." (Emphasis mine, which for them could mean not only recreating the subclasses with the builder, but also adjust the lingo -- like capitalized game terms-- and particular rules of the class features to match the 5.24 lingo and rules).
I doubt there will be any autoconversion. Just like you have to retag all your homebrew spells to include 2024 class & subclass in the Class Availability section, you have to recreate the homebrew subclasses you want to use with the 2024 classes (copy-pasting every feature in the subclass builder). You can play your pre-2024 homebrew subclasses just fine with a 2014 class chassis, but I wouldnt't hold my breath for any kind of autoconversion. If it could be easily done, they'd done it already. Even the DDB team took some time to recreate expended rules WOTC subclasses, like the Arcane Archer.
If I'm wrong about this, I welcome a DDB staff member to correct me ASAP and let us know. I'll happily stop manually converting all my subclasses and simply wait for that "conversion" feature to quick in!
If I can no longer build a character with the options I once had, will I be able to petition to have my money refunded for all of the books I've purchased up to now? I don't plan on updating to the 2024 versions of everything and I can no longer access all the options I once had.

From what I can tell, you can still use the old stuff. Have you found something that is not the case? Please share?
For some existing characters, we have just left them "the old way" being their species and background stay the same because the changes for the background changed the character too much. That said, most of the time, the change is worth it as you get more.

Same. This is what my campaigns are doing. Each character has 2 versions, the existing version, which hasn't been touched. And a rebuilt version from the ground up. I'd say the new builds are 90% there? Only reason it's complicated is they are level 12, with a lot of optimizing (the warlock/twilight cleric is switching to a Divine Soul Sorc.)

I homebrewed the Echo Knight. Basically opened two windows and just copied items over.
I accept that my 2014 subclasses don't work as is. The problem with the approach WotC have taken is that the 2014 homebrew users have made aren't even available as templates for 2024 homebrew. I can't copy a subclass, and resave it as a 2024 version, everything must be rebuilt entirely from nothing. I find that unacceptable, because I have spent literal weeks of my life building the homebrew the first time round.
The ridiculous thing is, the only reason there are grounds for complaint is that WotC repeatedly insisted 2024 was going to be entirely backwards compatible with 2014. It was a ridiculous assertion. But they made it, and now people are justified in feeling wronged.
Are we going to get the applicable levels added to the subclass feature titles or descriptions somehow? They did this just fine in the printed books, but seem to have dropped the ball on DNDB and haven't fixed it even now. There's no way in the class descriptions pages to see when you actually gain the subclass features, you would have to look at character builder or the printed version to know.

Actually, there is. You gain them in order; look at the main table to see "when do I get the 3rd ability, and then the 4th?"

Not sure what you mean, I see the level given for each.

Ahh, so its not an issue with the PHB but with the website. It is odd that they don't duplicate what the book has in this section. Yeah, that should be fixed.
It's now almost a week since the PHB 2024 was released on the 17th (as I write it is now the 22nd) - and my pre-ordered physical copy STILL hasn't arrived!
My account just sat inert "processing order" and hasn't changed. No cancellations no missed payments just a whole lot of nothing.
I got a bulk email from customer support saying they were snowed under with complaints (not suprised!) and if the FAQS didn't address my problem (absence of physical books existence) to write back.
So I did, and two days later still haven't heard back from them.
I'm seriously thinking of just ordering it again from Amazon at this point. I get the distinct impression whomever put together the pre-order for the new books for WOTC couldn't organise a polite drinking contest at a beer tasting.
Doesn't give me much hope I'll see either the Dungeon Masters Guide (due at the end of October) or The Monster Manual the right side of either Haloween or perhaps Easter 2025.
Minor bug/typo?: The stat block for the 2024 Octopus when searched (such as under Extras to add as a familiar or the website search) does not include its walk/swim speed. Stat block in the 2024 free rules sourcebook shows it normally though.
My Tabaxi Wild Sorcerer already has Tamed Surge (Level 18) available despite my character only being at Level 6. It's listed as a second "Wild Magic Surge" with the "long rest" option under it.

To be fair, the backwards compatibility claim is for the game itself, not for the digital tools. For people that don't use D&D Beyond, this revised PHB is backwards compatible, with minor adjustments. The team that designed the 2024 PHB did their "comptability" part. It's up to the D&D Beyond team to make things fit the way they should.
I fully understand the frustration, however. I spend several days retagging my hundreds of spells, and only rebuilt 3 of my 20+ homebrew subclasses so far... I don't know why sublasses that got their archetype at 3rd level in the 2014 PHB can't simply be carried over to a 2024 class. I understand that other subclasses that got their archetype at 1st or 2nd level don't "fit" the 2024 chassis and need to be rebuilt, but the others? I'm not a programmer/coder, but it seems there should be a way to make the 3rd-level archetypes work "as is".
I want to add to the bugs with the Custom Background tool. If you choose a 2024 background on the "Background Feature" dropdown, it sometimes adds you it's attached origin feat but sometimes it doesn't. It also doesn't let you select neither from the 2024 Background ASI, nor any other ASI selection.

It's available now. Make sure you have Expanded Rules selected in the Character Preferences.

It would be easier to have the applicable levels listed like in the book. Very annoying to me that they didn't do it that way.
