Came here looking to see if anyone else was having this problem. Ran into it with trying to create a homebrew subclass based on the drakewarden (ranger) - just get the beholder
Bumping for info - I can make custom subclasses for all classes EXCEPT Barb. Tried submitting a ticket, and was told to look elsewhere. Hope they fix this. Tried logging out/in like we needed to to get access to the handbook on launch.
I had the same issue creating from a subclass if I selected one of the PHB 2024 subclasses to base it on, but when I selected from the Expanded Rules, specifically the Path of the Ancestral Guardian (XGtE), it allowed me to create it.
Yeah, I'm trying to make them with the 2024 ruleset, but no dice.
You can select the 2024 Barbarian base class and then select a subclass from the expended rules and your homebrew will still be for the 2024 Barbarian. The only difference is the subclass ability write-ups that you start with to edit. It's still not ideal if your concept is closer to the abilities of one of the 2024 subclasses, but it will make it a 2024 subclass and let you publish it. Also, Wang365 indicated that it also works if you choose to create from scratch, but I have not tried this yet.
Here's my example: Path of Rolling Thunder made by selecting 2024 Barbarian Base Class and Path of the Ancestral Guardian (XGtE) under expanded rules.
If they make it so that 2024 subclasses backwards compatible (i.e., selectable) with 2014 homebrew, I would default to making future homebrew for 2014 so it shows up in both.
That's it. Whenever I click on the "create" button to start, it gives me the error beholder screen.
EDIT: Haven't yet tried with other classes, though I did create a subclass for Ranger and that seemed to work fine.

Give it a few days and it'll probably be fixed. Lots of issues like this have been popping up.
I am currently having this issue as of 21/09/2024 so here's the bump.
EDIT: POSSIBLE SOLUTION
When creating a 2024 Barbarian subclass, create it from scratch instead of trying to create it from the Template
Still having this issue as of 9/23/2024. Tried submitting a ticket but still haven't received any reply.
As of October 2nd, this is still an issue.

My Homebrew: Subclasses, Monsters, Feats, Backgrounds, Magic Items
Migrating to 2024 and releasing new Homebrew regularly.
Feedback and play-testing appreciated!

Hey thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try.
I am also having this problem when I try to make some changes to a Path of the World Tree Barbarian.
Still broken
