I appreciate that the 2014 rules "kind of work" for now. As a DM and player in multiple ongoing campaigns, my groups have decided to stick with the 2014 rules until these campaigns conclude—especially since not all of the 2024 rulebooks (like the Monster Manual) are even out yet. These campaigns are likely to run for another 2–3 years, so I’m frustrated that my paid-for 2014 experience is being disrupted.
The real problem is how 2014 content is now marked as "legacy." In the 2014 rules, "legacy" had a clear meaning: it referred to material that had been superseded by a newer publication within the same rules set. Now, with everything from 2014 marked as legacy, it’s impossible to distinguish between these cases. For example, I can currently differentiate between the Eladrin versions from the Monster Manual, Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes, and Monsters of the Multiverse—but if this content gets reprinted in 2024, I’ll no longer be able to tell them apart. The term "legacy" should only apply to material that’s been replaced within the same rules set, not to all 2014 content.
Another issue is with accessing equipment. If I want to look up something like a longbow, I can’t easily find the 2014 version unless I know the original source. The dropdowns default to showing the 2024 rules, leaving no straightforward way to view 2014 content.
Please revise the tags so we can differentiate between 2014 and 2024 content while maintaining the legacy distinction for materials updated within their respective rules sets. And please ensure the tools allow us to continue viewing 2014 rules easily.
