when you select custom background, the options you get are tailored to the structure of backgrounds in the 2014 edition, but no option to for a custom class that has the structure of the 2024 edition backgrounds, is this something that has been forgotten to add, something that still needs to be added, or something that has intentionally been chosen not to add?
Unfortunately the Custom Background portion of the character builder do not provide the added benefits that Backgrounds now receive (an Origin feat and an Ability Score Improvement). We’re working on updating this functionality - but there’s no ETA for this yet.
Thanks, I've managed to find a workaround for now. For those also looking for a solution:
Use the Custom background options, select your skill proficiencies, but only 1 tool proficiency (just leave the other option blank)
Add your Background's starting equipment/GP in the equipment tab
Use a 2024 species, this allows you to choose your +1/+2 or +1/+1/+1 modifiers in the abilities tab
once you've created the character, you can add a feat in the online character sheet under features&traits
Or alternatively (especially if you wish to reuse the background in the future), create it as a homebrew background (although I haven't tested that myself, so idk if you can do it properly, although it seems like you can use 2024 backgrounds as your starting point to change, so that's promising)

Considering that was written in early September, I would not be at all surprised if this is yet another feature that dndbeyond never bothers to implement.
