New to forums so excuse me if I'm posting this on the wrong board
I'm new to DnD and I'm still learning the mechanics. I created a character to use as an example and I compare what I read in the basic rules (2014) with the listed scores. Why I'm making this post: I don't understand why my characters attack roll with a shortsword has a +4
My character is a lvl 1 tiefling fighter, with strengh mod +1 and with shortsword mastery. From what I know the score should be +3. Thanks in advance!
Shortswords have a property called "finesse", which means that you can use either your Strength or Dexterity modifier for their attack and damage rolls. D&D Beyond's character sheet automatically applies whichever of these is higher, which in your character's case is Dexterity. Your +2 Dexterity modifier, added to your +2 Proficiency Bonus, gives you an attack bonus of +4 with shortswords.

Could you provide a link to your character sheet and also make sure it is listed as Public in the Character Editor on the Home tab?
