Can the monk cast spells whit ki? in the case that the monk dosent choise the elemental path? if is yes ,how? if is no, way? can be really explanatory so I can convence my dm to let me be a shadow illucion monk plz.
the short answer is no, Monks are not spell casters (other than abilities using ki).
It is possible to multiclass a Monk with a spell caster class.
Another option is to work with your DM to create a homebrew monk subclass that does allow spellcasting (like Eldritch Knight does for fighter or Arcane Trickster for Rogue)
Shadow monks can cast certain spells with ki, as per the PHB
You can spend 2 ki points to cast darkness, darkvision, pass without trace or silence, and you learn the minor illusion cantrip if you don't already know it. As with all other monk abilities, your DC for these spells is 8 + proficiency bonus + WIS modifier
