So I've run into this issue before and I'm sure if it's just an oversight in the website or if I'm missing something or what, but if you create a magic item and add a spell to it with the intent of having a specific number of charges for said spell, there doesn't appear to be any way to set a recovery method for these spells.
For instance, I am trying to make a magic item that gives its user one charge of the spell "Time Stop" per day - I can give the item itself charges just fine, but if I add a spell to the item and give it one charge, there isn't anywhere for me to add a recovery method for those charges. Even though when viewing the magic item page itself it will have a column for "Recovery Type" next to the spell there's no way to actually add one.
Testing this on a character sheet reveals that it's impossible to regenerate the charges once they're spent, even a Long Rest won't bring the charge back. Opening the item up just shows the charge amount with no way to alter it apart from spending said charges.
Am I just missing something here? Or is this an issue with the custom item creation system?
Broadly speaking, the homebrew system is built to facilitate the official rules. Official items, like Staff of the Woodlands, give the item a number of charges, and have each spell use a certain number of charges.
There is not currently a way for magic items to give different spells their own number of charges.
