In short, it's a bit of an oddity and wasn't really meant for use as a standard item, but people asked for it on these forums.
As per the post above, there is a magic item in an official publication. Due to the way D&D Beyond builds magic weapons ontop of base weapons, we needed a "standard boomerang" in the database to be able to add the magic item.
Hi, I'm noticing some content bugs with the Boomerang.
In the Items/Equipment menu: https://www.dndbeyond.com/equipment/boomerang - it's missing cost, weight, and ranges.
In the Character Sheet - it's missing weight and cost.
HTH!

That is because the only official information we have on the boomerang are found in Storm Boomerang's description.
Thanks, makes sense - but I still have a question - why does the character sheet have range and the items list doesn't, though?
Shouldn't those be both missing or both there?

You're right. I see the range properly set in the editor, but for some reason, it does not show up.
I passed this to the devs.

It is missing the "Thrown" property on the base weapon entry.
