Issue: In D&D Beyond Maps, tokens progressively white out / abstract as zoom level changes. In some cases the map layer disappears entirely while tokens remain visible as white dots/circles.
Behavior is reproducible in both Chrome and Edge.
Observed symptoms:
Tokens become progressively washed out / white while zooming.
At certain zoom levels, players and/or DM see tokens rendered as white circles or simplified dots.
In some cases, the map image layer disappears completely while tokens remain visible.
Behavior occurs on custom maps and persists after extensive troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting performed:
Tested multiple map resolutions / exports.
Tested browser zoom and Windows display scaling changes.
Hey all! I've been using the dndbeyond maps tool for about a year and it's worked great up to this point. Then last week, for reasons I still can't even guess at, I started having a problem where everything on the map would become translucent and eventually disappear whenever I zoom out. I can only see images clearly when I am zoomed in to almost 300%. Once I start zooming out, it all fades. By the time I decrease the zoom to 100%, most of the stickers have become completely invisible. I can still select and manipulate them, I just can't see them. The original terrain of the map also becomes transparent. By the time I zoom out to 60%, the map has completely faded and I'm just looking at a black screen. The only exception to this problem is that character tokens and monster tokens (and their names) still show up no matter how far out I zoom, but their profile pictures fade out to a white circle.
This happens whether I'm a player or the DM (when I discovered it as a player, it created problems because I was accidentally seeing monster tokens through the fog of war). Nobody else in my party is having this issue. If I log into a different account on the same device, I still have the same problems.
I also noticed that the maps are working normally when I log in on my phone or on another device. Normally I use Microsoft Edge as my browser, but I just tried downloading firefox as a shot in the dark, and the maps worked normally when I was in firefox. So I have workarounds available, but I'd rather not have to keep a secondary browser installed or use a different device in order to fix this problem. I'd greatly appreciate any tips y'all have. Any advice?
I've been having the same issues. I was starting to think it was just me until I seen your posts. Doesn't matter what browser I use yet it all works fine on my phone. I've been looking for resolutions but have yet to find any.
I am fairly certain a recent Chromium update has caused this issue. For anyone who is experiencing this issue and has not already I highly suggest trying Firefox, which does not run off Chromium (both Chrome and Edge do).

I have 2 laptops. The second I'm using now, to see if it would have the same issues, and it does not. Everything looks as it should. And I'm running in Chrome. So I don't think that's it. But I will try Firefox on the one having the issues and see what happens. Thanks.
Just an update. I hade done all the usuals around uninstalling/reinstalling chrome. Flushing cookies and all. But nothing worked. I googled "chome and edge display issues. not in firefox" and Gemini suggested a possbility on the the chrome://flags set of features around ANGLE graphics backend. The suggestion there was to alter setting. The ones they suggested did not work or were not available (like OpenGL), so kept choosing different once. I then go the maps to stop behaiving like they were by choosing "D3D11 WARP". I am not 100% sure what the differences are between these. The performance kind of feels a little off than before, but it's usable + i can see everything in maps again in Chrome.

So I followed up on the trying of Firefox and well, I'll be an Ochre Jelly's Uncle, it works just fine. All the tokens can be seen and stickers appear even when I'm not zoomed in at 500%. Thanks again for the suggestion.

In D&D Beyond Maps, tokens progressively white out / abstract as zoom level changes. In some cases the map layer disappears entirely while tokens remain visible as white dots/circles.

Observed symptoms:
Troubleshooting performed:
Important observation:
Switching Chrome's ANGLE backend to D3D11 WARP (software rendering) resolves the rendering corruption, implying a hardware acceleration / WebGL / ANGLE compatibility issue involving the Qualcomm Adreno stack.
Control comparison:
Roll20 on the same machine/browser/GPU does not exhibit this issue.
Additional browser diagnostics:
Chrome GPU logs showed GPU instability / memory related behavior during testing (GPU process OOM / rendering errors).
Confirmed everything works on Firefox. Seems to only be an issue on Chromium-based browsers.
