Hi! I created a custom Dwarf/Earth-Genasi Homebrew Subspecies. For the Earth Genasi part I chose the meld into stone subfeature and copied it but when i wanted to add the phb 2024 Blade ward, i could only choose the legacy version. For other spells e.g. True Strike, both 5.5e and 5e/the legacy options are selectable.
Both PHBs are shared with me. In addition Blade Ward is a spell listed in the dnd beyond 2024 Basic Rules under Character Classes -> Bard/Warlock/Sorcerer Spell List. And i can add Spells from other sources that are shared with me, e.g. from Tal'dorei
Shared character options can only be used inside the campaign that’s sharing it. Since the homebrew system is not inside any campaign, you’ll need to own the 2024 PHB yourself if you want to use it there.
I get that, and thanks for clarification, but that still doesn't explain why i can choose Freedom of the Waves from the Tal'dorei Campaign Setting Reborn which i also don't own.
Anyway thanks again! I'll look into getting the phb 2024 than, if/when it will be on sale.
Critical Role released a few promotional subclasses for free on D&D Beyond long before TCSR was added to the site. That include the Oath of the Open Sea paladin and thus that spell. You’re therefore able to use that spell in homebrew because you have direct access to it, not because it’s shared with you.

ModeratorTrue Strike is in both versions of the Basic Rules; Blade Ward isn’t in either. Do you maybe own the 2014 PHB but not the 2024 one?

While this spell is on those class spell lists in the Basic Rules, the spell itself is still not in the Basic Rules:
