I waited for the Stable channel update, which I received today. Updated my machine (Samsung Chromebook Plus v. 1, 32-bit processor), and still had the issue. So I bit the bullet and changed channels to the Beta channel, and all is well. I should have just done that when Sorce mentioned it in the first place.
Long story short, if you don't want to wait for the Google Chrome crew to work it out but you need Chrome, update to Beta channel. If Chome isn't your end-all, be-all, then there are other browsers that are available to Chromebook users if they can access the Play Store or run Linux.
Thanks for the feedback everyone - are you able to report the version of chrome OS you are using? Also the version of the chromebook device?

I just updated my chromebook to the latest firmware and that seems to have fixed the issue for me.
