I was making a new character sheet, and somehow, for the background options, entertainer wasn't there as an option. - Is this intentional, and something I do not know of? I found it a bit odd that it wasn't one of the options, when all the other basic ones were there.
Thread necro - sorry about this, but I'm experiencing the same thing - built one character for a campaign and gave them Entertainer. Making another for a campaign about to start (the DM hasn't built the campaign in Beyond yet) and my dragonborn bard isn't able to choose Entertainer.
Ok so it's in the book version. It's not in the online version? It's one of 5 available in the ruleset book but I can't do it online why? I purchased the book and used the code everything from book should be unlocked.
D&D Beyond only offers the Essentials Adventures, and does not have the Essentials Kit Rulebook on the site in any capacity. The code in the Essentials Kit physical product unlocks the Dragon of Icespire Peak adventure on D&D Beyond. Your physical purchase of the Essentials Kit however comes with a 50% off coupon for the Player's Handbook, which contains a vast swath of content, including the Entertainer background.

The background "Entertainer" is in the Player's Handbook - do you have that unlocked, or shared with you on D&D Beyond?
Are you able to access this link?

I have dnd essentials and it's in there but not here
Entertainer is the only one of the options suggested as a character option in dragon of icespire peak that isn't included in the basic rules.
