It's really a terrible policy (it doesn't matter who's responsible) that material released for Playtest on UA can and is just being yanked away like that and especially terrible when you've made a character with that content. That's a level of licence micro-management that discourages people from using this platform entirely (especially when all parties aren't perfectly open about that) and is the kind of thing that is going to build a lot of ire for D&D Beyond and D&D in general. I enjoy Giant Soul and some of the playtest material on UA. Until an alternative is provided for folks both you and your D&D partners should still make it available.

When Unearthed Arcana playtest content is retired, it isn't removed from existing characters - we have never done that and we don't intend to do so in the future.

As Stormknight says, existing characters using archived UA content are generally unaffected. It's just that the archived UA content can't be newly chosen for characters after it is archived.

It is like when a product is recalled. It isn't literally ripped from the hands of those who have it, but it is taken off the shelves.
