I'm sure this has been reported but I'm new and tried a quick search and get nothing...
Manage Hit Points and change value of Override input box. Trying to get it back to something else, even 0, will revert back to 1. I have to increase the override number to what I want the HP to be instead of just not using Override anymore to revert back to the other HP defaults.
On your character builder page first go to tab "Home" and change the value of "Hit Point Type" to "Manual". Then go to tab "2. Class" click on the button on the right "Manage HP". There you can change the rolled HP (this value will be added to hp from other sources like CON modifier or Tough feat) or you can set the override HP and this will replace your max HP. Be aware that the last option requires a special care when doing a long rest, the long rest modal has a checkbox that asks if you want or not to reset the max HP, if checked by mistake it will reset the override HP when a long rest is taken.
I hope this helps. I found that to remove numbers from Override Hit Point box you have to select the number and hit the delete/backspace key. It'll add a dash in the box. You can then save and you'll be back to normal.
I can see that I'm not the only one who stepped in this pile of dog poop and had to go searching for a good solution. Since I stepped in it and had to search hard to find the answer, it feels like this is still a problem and should behave differently. A very simple way to "unset" the override value (rather than being forced to learn the magic '-' incantation) would be super helpful. Just adding my annoyance to this thread in hopes that the 'resolved' part of this issue can be improved.
Looks like still two FOUR years later this same issue is present. I am just now using the app and getting used to it. This certainly seems like lazy programming here or the devs not caring about fixing a bug... the dash option should be selectable, you should not have to trick the UI into putting the dash there.
It's now 2024 and this problem still exists, and when I try some of the workarounds given here (delete or - ), when I apply I hit an error page saying "Whoops! We rolled a 1 on our API check. We're heading into town to visit the blacksmith for repairs. Try again after a Short Rest."
I will try again later, but the posts here suggest I'll probably just have to override my HP every time I level up.
This is still a problem as of November 3rd, 2024. One of the players in my campaign was messing around with their HP and decided to put a number into the Override box. We still can't undo it. It'd be great to have this bug fixed after seven years. It's annoying them enough that we might just have to delete the character and start over.
It doesn't fix the issue. The website errors out if you try to remove the Override HP setting and save it. Then the Override HP is set to 1 when you return to the page.

"Fumble! Roll d20 to see if you hit yourself."
I'm hitting the same problem. Did you end up getting/finding an answer?

Looking for an answer to this too!
And I cast Heroism on the community.

i found a fix. if you replace the number with a - it voids the override

I, too, am having this issue on 11/3/2024.

Go on your sheet and click on long rest. Make sure the box asking for reseting HP is checked and validate the long rest, the override will be deleted.
Only way I found to remove the override, other methods here didn't work
Finally got the long rest button to work.
