Currently the best way to do it is homebrew wonderous items. In my new campaign, the DM awarded all players with some feats for their backgrounds and I currently have them as [FEAT] Feat Name in a homebrew item.
This is definitely good feedback, and part of this will be addressed once we finish homebrew functionality for races and sub-classes. Once those are done, you'll be able to specify "features" in your homebrew sub-class that you gain at specific class levels, and you could theoretically create a level 1 class feature that grants a choice of a feat to your character. Of course, this requires the creation of the homebrew class.
But as of right now, feats that are granted to you come from a source (i.e. Variant Human racial trait or Ability Score Improvement class feature), and as a result, there isn't anything in place right now to add a feat outside of that.

Several of the characters in my games have feats from their backgrounds.

I was told to add a feat to my lv 1 char by my DM. I tried to create a homebrew wondrous item as a work around when I found no way to accomplish this, but wondrous items that add feats are still under development, too. Disappointing.
I look forward to seeing more features developed for DDB, meanwhile I'll be using a more robust 3rd party char sheet generator.

Is there any ETA on this and/or finishing of homebrew? Like, weeks, months, year? I would really love the feature.
It is on the list of things to be added. There is no ETA but the character sheet revamp is soon. For now a workaround is to add the feat through a homebrew magic item.

How would you go about to add the "Warcaster" feat as a homebrew magic item?
How would you go about to add the "Warcaster" feat as a homebrew magic item?
This is how I would do it. To start, go to items>create a magic item. On the new page click create from scratch. You then enter a name in the name text box, in this case War Caster. Chose a rarity, probably common. Keep the base item type as item. Set the magic item type to ring. Leave the attunement check box unchecked. In the description text box type in the feat description. Click the save magic item button. You will then be taken to a new page to add additional details. Open the modifiers section and click add a modifier. Set the modifier type to advantage. Set the modifier subtype to saving throws. In the description text box type the description for what you have advantage on. Click save. Click save on the item. Then you are done. Do not publish the item as it uses copyrighted material but you are free to use it for your characters.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to explain this... I know it isn't rocket science, but I was having a tough time figuring out how people were doing this. :)
I can see that back in February that someone said character revamp was soon, but we still don't have any way to make 1st level feats, and the work around with item Isn't amazing. Any news?

The target is to release the revamp within 10 days.

No option to add bonus feat to any new PC (house rule).
Is there a way and I'm missing it?

Hope to see such options soon, quite important to me!
Has anyone tried using a homebrewed magic item as a workaround? From what I've seen the modifiers for the magic items cover how many feats work.
Stormknight,
Are there current plans to incorporate such house rules anytime soon?

When selecting Human variant, there is only one feat available to select....grappling
D&D Beyond can be used for free and contains information from the following "free to use" sources published by Wizards of the Coast: D&D 5th edition SRD, D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, and Elemental Evil Companion.
Content from other sources, such as the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, or Monster Manual, will need to be purchased from the Marketplace or accessed via another user sharing content with you via their Master Tier Subscription.
I would really love the feature.
Any update to this? My new DM grants a lvl 1 feat as homebrew, but no way to add it.
Thanks

Any tips on adding racial feats to the lists of feats on magic items.
I cannot seem to get elven accuracy to display.
