7th-level evocation Casting Time: 1 action Range: 60 feet Components: V, S, M (a miniature platinum sword with a grip and pommel of copper and zinc, worth 250 gp) Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
You create a sword-shaped plane of force that hovers within range. It lasts for the duration. When the sword appears, you make a melee spell attack against a target of your choice within 5 feet of the sword. On a hit, the target takes 3d10 force damage. Until the spell ends, you can use a bonus action on each of your turns to move the sword up to 20 feet to a spot you can see and repeat this attack against the same target or a different one.
It would be great if you could add it to the Basic Rules-set of spells. Thanks!
the spell Mordenkainen’s Sword is available for free, as part of the Basic Rules, which makes adding Arcane Sword from the SRD redundant as well as potentially confusing. 😊
Ah, okay, I thought it was not covered by SRD because the name is different and there are some other duplicated spells (Acid Arrow vs. Melf's Acid Arrow) and about a dozen other examples where this differentiation was kept intact.
I can understand that it's a little convoluted, with there being two, different free sources: The Basic Rules and the SRD.
We've presented the Basic Rules for free on D&D Beyond, also adding content from the SRD where needed.
Neither Acid Arrow, or Melfs Acid Arrow, is in the Basic Rules. Acid Arrow is in the SRD (freely available) and Melf's Acid Arrow is in the Player's Handbook.
Hi everyone,
the spell "Arcane Sword" is nowhere to be found on D&D Beyond. It is available in the SRD OGL v5.1 (https://media.wizards.com/2016/downloads/DND/SRD-OGL_V5.1.pdf) and is specified as follows:
