So I have created a weapon that give you double proficiency/expertise on strength based attacks once attuned. the problem is it does not seem to do anything to the modifier on the actions page. I have tried using twice proficiency and expertise or just one or the other but nothing seems to make a difference. how can I rectify this issue without just telling my players to add it up in their heads ? seems strange that neither of these options are working
If I had to hazard a guess, it'd be because double proficiency in all RAW instances only applies to proficiency bonus from skills or tools. That's what Expertise is; pick from a range of skills and tools, you double your proficiency bonus when using them. There is no instance of doubling proficiency bonus on attack rolls and thus I expect that the tools aren't set up to register such a configuration.
thank you so much Dave for the explanation, that does make a lot of sense when thinking of how it works for rogues. I will just let them know that they can add the double proficiency to the roll then.
