It seems the blade of Avernus from the book "baldurs gate: descent into avernus" operates in DnDbeyond as if it is a +5 magic weapon, when it should be +3 like the Vorpal Sword referenced in the weapons description. Am I missing an obscure ruling somewhere that would make this so or is it an error in the code?

I just had a look and it's setup as +3, as per the rules.
If you're seeing +5, is it possible that you're looking at homebrew, or there's an additional +2 bonus you're not accounting for (i.e. fighting style)?
The character in question is a level 13 paladin with a +6 str modifier, and the defence fighting style, i am not certain where there additional +2 is coming from.
The version of the blade i am having the issue with appears to the best of my ability to be the one from the book. however after reading your response i tried to make a test character with as many things in common as i could manage(without all of the shared content books) and i was unable to recreate the discrepancy. So i am also starting to believe there is an additional +2 somewhere, though i have no idea where. I've been using the character for almost 2 years now, so there are quite a few customizations/changes added to it
Without an input from a mod - I can only guess. It seems that while the item itself is official (because it doesn't have a "Version:" tag on it) - you are using a number of other homebrew items. Perhaps it's one of them that's been badly coded and causing issues? Try unequipping/removing some of them - one at a time - to see if it fixes it?
You also have a number of homebrew Feats (because they don't have a source book note to the right of their name). It could be one of them also.
As I say though - that's only a guess.
I would also be interested to know if the +5 is only being applied to Blade of Avernus or whether it's also attaching to a Dagger or something. Basically anything to narrow down what might be the cause.

Best to link your character where the problem is so the mods can look into it further.

Fair and understandable, here is the link to the character in question

I just had a look and added a normal longsword to the character - this normal longsword also gains that +2 damage.
I checked the other items and noted that unequipping "Arcane Shield +2" results in the damage dropping back to what would be expected.
The Arcane Shield +2 magic item is homebrew and likely has a modifier on it that adds +2 to melee attack damage.
