I'm trying to figure out how to buy a gift subscription for my sister's boyfriend. He's interested in D&D but has never played. I'd like to get him a subscription as a Christmas present, but when I look to buy one, it goes directly into managing my own account.
Is there a way to buy a subscription voucher for him so that he can create an account and then redeem the voucher for a one year subscription that I have already paid in full?
You can't gift a subscription as it's a reoccurring cost that is charged on a regular cycle. Obviously you can't gift an obligation for someone else to keep paying a charge.
Too bad. I was hoping to purchase a 1-year subscription for my nephew. Would be great to spend the $25.99 or whatever and then give him a key to redeem under his account.
I was just thinking of doing this for someone. It is too bad you can't do it for just one year. They are missing out by insisting on it being renewable.
It would be good to offer a way to gift 1-year and then the recipient can choose to continue the subscription if they enjoyed it. This is a common pattern in other similarly billed services.
Why do you people hate money? I have 6 kids I play with and was ready to drop over $300 on yearlong Master Tier subscriptions. I guess they get slipper socks now, I hope you're happy!!
Do me a favor? Please tell whoever pockets the money your organization makes that they are literally missing out on 6 to 7 figures of Holiday income, never mind all the residuals when the kids start buying books, etc.?
I was hoping to gift a year subscription to each of my players. It would make managing our games so much easier, and they could have the added benefit of going ham on creating a new character whenever the whim hit.
We are coming up on 10 years of gaming together and i wanted to do something nice, and somewhat affordable for them. Guess ill just have to buy them custom minis again this year.
It's really stupid that a site now backed by Hasbro can't get a payment system that allows for gifting subs when a smaller site like roll20 that has allowed it for years

Exactly. Even small sites have the ability to "gift" subscriptions or VIP packages. Yet this site, running for years....with this request being asked for years...cant figure out how to do it?
I cant believe it. I simply cant. You cant even create and account that is with a subscription on it and gift that to a person as sharing an account can get you in trouble.
As I've posted before, it would be good to offer a way to gift 1-year and then the recipient can choose to continue the subscription if they enjoyed it. This is a common pattern in other similarly billed services.
I'm not suggesting anything is "broken", and it does make sense that a recurring charge subscription is an obligation of payment which is not a "gift". However, offering to buy someone a 1 year "trial" on a subscription they can later cancel is not a bad idea and it works. There may be many people who after using it for a year would choose to continue the subscription. On the other hand, there may be those who don't. The former are a win for the service and the latter, well, they weren't customers to begin with and that doesn't change.
This is a feature we are asking for, not a "fix", because, as you say, nothing is broken. But the snippy short responses we are getting here to this "good idea" from the moderators are not appreciated.
If you need assistance with the architecture of integrating this feature into your app and billing systems, it's time to hire the right engineers. As a cloud applications engineer and architect with 25+ years of experience, I can assure you it is possible to do, and, a pretty good bet at being a feature that will grow your user base and not hamper it in any way.
Easy money guys. Got a player who is at their max characters and they can't afford the subscription. Should be able to maybe have a type of DM membership that gives my players a larger amount of available players.
We tend to play with a large amount of characters to build fifes, barony's, and kingdoms. So a lot of characters are needed.
Want to buy my Dungeon Master the Master Tier. I would buy it for myself, but I'm not the DM & it's really more suited for my DM. It's more annoying to have to send money to her, than the ease of just gifting a year's sub. Please add a gift Subscription option. Thank you!
That is correct, it wouldnt be much of a gift if you are saddling them with a cost. BUT, like say ...Disney, you -can- give a one-year subscription. That really should be an option. The support that has been shown for this idea is massive. Its a lost revenue to WoTC. Particularly at Christmas...the company would make a killing. seems someone in management or marketing failed their perception check. Nat 1!

Yeah, real shame! Wanted to gift it to my 15yo son for his birthday.
Bump! I already have a recurring Master tier subscription, was looking to gift Hero tier to my son.
I find it odd that with all the options, all the perks, you cant gift a subscription! Its really frustrating.

It seems like this should have been fixed by now : ]

I'm shocked by this as well. Just tried to purchase three annual subscriptions and was disappointed to learn I can't.
Still can't gift a subscription.
Seriously?
