Former owners have access to both... what I don't see is the old books for sale... IDK if this prevents new customers from accessing and using the old content, but this is looking quite bad.

The old books are no longer for sale. This was mentioned in the FAQ and I think a dev update or 2.
It is a little bit annoying, but not as annoying as just errata'ing all the old content away.
I'm more concerned about how new customers access the old race options, if only customers who already bought retired content can share the old race options, this is officially 5.5.

We are getting there, yeah. I suspect that in 2024 they will announce which books are 5.5 legal and Tasha's and MotM will probably be some of the earliest books. They might have some errata'd versions of a few setting books or some kind of content companion PDF for what does/doesn't carry over (because I imagine the setting lore won't change). And there will be a PHB 2.0 definitely, might be a full core set 2.0 (DMG+MM).

If I buy the new sourcebook. Will it replace the old versions options if you've already bought them or would they both be open to you.
I would love it if screenshots could be provided showing how the old and new variants are displayed together.
According to the FAQ, multiple forum posts, etc., yes, you keep both.
I hope this answers your question. MotM doesn't use race groups/subraces and the character builder is a bit crowded because of it.
”A bit crowded….” That’s like saying the World Trade Center is a bit tall.
you're a life saver
