I’m making a Thri-kreen character, but there is no Thri-kreen language listed to choose from. Thri-kreen PCs are incapable of speaking the language of their own people, at all. It is impossible for them to even learn it, at least when creating them using D&D Beyond, because it isn’t an option.
Thats because they don't really have a language, instead they have telepathy that doesn't need to share a language.
Thri-kreen speak by clacking their mandibles and waving their antennae, indicating to other thri-kreen what they are thinking and feeling. Other creatures find this method of communication difficult to interpret and impossible to duplicate. To interact with other folk, thri-kreen rely on a form of telepathy.
Thri-kreen Telepathy
Without the assistance of magic, you can’t speak the non-thri-kreen languages you know. Instead you use telepathy to convey your thoughts. You have the magical ability to transmit your thoughts mentally to willing creatures you can see within 120 feet of yourself. A contacted creature doesn’t need to share a language with you to understand your thoughts, but it must be able to understand at least one language. Your telepathic link to a creature is broken if you and the creature move more than 120 feet apart, if either of you is incapacitated, or if either of you mentally breaks the contact (no action required).

If I can't say something nice, I try to not say anything at all. So if I suddenly stop participating in a topic that's probably why.
Then how come there are creature stat blocks that within the ‘languages’ section say “Thri-kreen”? And why does Thri-kreen Telepathy have the phrase “you can’t speak the non-thri-kreen languages you know” if there isn’t a Thri-kreen language in the first place? If there wasn’t a language, it would cut off after the word “speak”.
why does the Thri-kreen Gladiator stat block say they can speak Thri-kreen, when my character sheet can’t? Can’t I even have a non-Thri-kreen character who studied them and can passably understand what they mean when they click and whistle and whirr and wave their antennae?
Because WotC can't keep their own lore straight. If I recall correctly they used to not have a spoken language but they did have a telepathic language. This is no longer the case though, now they apparently have a spoken language that only they can speak and understand. Because of this now whenever they speak with a non Thri-Kreen it must be telepathically. I'm pretty sure they did this so they wouldn't have decided whether or not the verbal component of spells could be telepathic. Also take all of this with a grain of salt because I've never read or played the original spelljammer so this is just little bits of lore I've picked up, I have no idea how accurate it is.

Where are you getting the "Without the assistance of magic, you can’t speak the non-thri-kreen languages you know. Instead you use telepathy to convey your thoughts." phrase from? I've found nowhere where the feature has this phrase included other than here.

I copied it directly from the thri kreen telepath ability
