the "remove" character option needs to be renamed and better annotated. It should probably be "delete" character, since that's what it does. I read it to "remove" the character from the campaign, thinking that I could move the character to another place, but instead it just deleted it. Very disappointing. Also, there should be better ways to move characters around and reassign them. I had a number of issue with people claiming the wrong characters forgetting logins and stupid stuff. As the DM, I should have the ability to "unclaim" or reset a characted and add them back into to unassigned pool for another person to pick them up.
I have 13 characters I've already made. Now I'd like to add them to a campaign, but there appears to be no way to do so. You have to recreate them "in the campaign".
Wow, good to know "Remove" is actually delete... yes that needs to be fixed as well.

Hi there,
when viewing a campaign as the owner of that campaign, the REMOVE link on each character does exactly that - it removes the character from the campaign.
It does not delete the character.
I just tested this myself to ensure it's still working correctly and the character I removed is still available and fine on my test account.
Only the owner of the character can delete it and that is done by hitting the delete link when viewing "my characters"

This is also incorrect.
You can add existing characters to a campaign easily, by using the "join link" for the campaign. When you access that url (whether as player or DM) you are given the option to add an existing character to the campaign, or create a new one.
Then I don't know what happened...which would be a bug like thing. I was in the campaign, created an unassigned character, removed the character, went into "my characters" and it was gone. I had absolutely did NOT choose delete Character. I was just trying to get the character over to another player....which, I'm not sure is possible either. In any case, the character was deleted, not removed. sorry.
No need to apologise! We would much rather people report issues, so that we can look into them. :)
You should absolutely be able to create a character in a campaign and then unassign it - another player can then use your campaign link to join the campaign and claim that unassigned character as their own.

You missed the last step of what he did:
Create unassigned character in campaign
Clicked remove on the above character from the campaign page
I'm assuming because of the loose association between an unassigned character and its creator this caused the deletion, as it belonged to no players, and was no longer in a campaign.
An unassigned character belongs to the DM and counts against their total characters, it has an association. So the question is over bug or user error, which I'm sure Stormknight can look into.
If you saw a 'Remove' link, that means that another user had claimed the character. Clicking remove will remove it from the campaign, but it will stay in the claimed user's pool of characters. It absolutely does not delete the character. If you want to remove the character from the claiming user, you'd need to have them click the 'Unassign' link. That will put it back into the pool of unassigned characters in the campaign.

After thinking about this, I realized that this is exactly what happened. I couldn't get into the account however, because of twitch login issues. Lost password etc. My feedback would be to better indicate that the character is going back to claimed character and maybe have a better way to move characters around.
I accidentally created an NPC using the create unassigned character feature in my campaign. I hit the remove button hoping that it would be sent to my characters, but instead it disappeared.
Is this how it's supposed to work?
As far as I can tell, the character has been deleted.
I had a pre-gen that I made claimed. The player stopped playing and I need to return that pre-gen to the unclaimed pool for someone else to run. I'm seeing no way to return it to the pool seeing the old player wont hit a link to return it. I'm the DM, My campaign, I should be able to move anything anywhere! I should not have to rely on someone else hitting a link.

You don't have an unassign button on the campaign screen for the character you claimed?
View, Edit, Deactivate, Remove. And I didn't claim it, someone else did. I'm the DM and I'm trying to return the char to the pool.
Well then yeah, you can't. I understand the issue with saying its your campaign, but the character itself is someone elses, so its not going to just let you take it from them and give it to someone else. Since you have visibility, you can recreate it and then unassign as needed.
It's intentional that the system prevents characters being 'taken' from users, even by the DM. If you remove a character from a campaign, that character will remain under the ownership of whoever last claimed it.
If you want to ensure that you always have pre-gens to hand without having to ask players to unassign them, it's recommend you make a copy and put that in the campaign.
There should at least be an option to duplicate an existing character. Players accidentally claim the wrong PC or lose their account information all the time, no need to force the to recreate it from scratch. I mean its just sitting there.........................................................
