I want to use this site but I don't want to re-buy every book I own for D&D to use all my resources, how am I supposed to redeem these books to be digital on the site? Is that not possible and if so why? It would seem unreasonable to have loyal customers that bought all the things necessary to have a fully fledged campaign not be able to use it. That would force them to spend another couple hundred dollars and then pay for a subscription. Please help.
There's no way to redeem them. Up until recently DnDbeyond was a completely separate company that just had the license to D&D. So a redeemable code made no sense.
Now however Hasbro bought DnDBeyond and are now experimenting with redeemable codes, the latest book had a purchase option that gave you the physical and digital book but even then you had to buy it from (I think) WOTCs website. Even then it cost more then just one of them individually but not as much as buying both speratly. So its less of a 'This purchase comes with a code'' and more of a discounted bundle for both versions.
So aside form the stuff the basic rules give you, you'll unfortunately have to either rebuy the books or use the homebrew tools to recreate everything from scratch. They also made the Lost Mine of Phandelver adventure free for everyone, so there's that too.
Have the Physical Books? Confused as to why you're not allowed to redeem them for free on D&D Beyond? Questions answered here at the Hardcover Books, D&D Beyond and You FAQ
Looking to add mouse-over triggered tooltips to such things like magic items, monsters or combat actions? Then dash over to the How to Add Tooltips thread.
You can use homebrew tools to add anything for free or buy just the classes etc for less than the whole book. No way to redeem already bought books unfortunately, and there never will be.
