When I am running a game I sometimes need to look up something quickly. But whenever I click on spells, items or monsters the DnD Beyond website gives me the full catalog, instead of the content that I purchased. I own a couple of books, meaning that the vast majority of the displayed items, spells and monsters are irrelevant to me during a session. I need to start searching for the item, remembering the source, setting an advanced filter etc. etc. And it is no longer quick lookup. Also I will buy content when preparing for a session or a campaign... but never during a session.
By making the full catalog, and not the purchased content, the default view the site seems to be designed around the marketplace and not about the usability of the content. One of the advantages of owning the content digitally could be that the DM can find need information quickly. But that is currently not the case.
Seconded. An option when searching monsters, items, etc. that only includes purchased content is really necessary. As I've been purchasing more and more content, filtering down monster results to just sources that I own is becoming more tedious. I'm ok with it not being set by default, but being able to tick a box to only include purchased content in the advanced filter would be really helpful.
Just browsing through the forums it doesn’t seem like this is mentioned enough! To elaborate more, the drop down for the source filter is very annoying to deal with every time you return to the page. Having none of the pre made campaigns, it’s such a hassle to select the sources I own. This is amplified ten times when using the site on mobile which I use often! Please for the love of Palor put in an “owned source’s only” button!
Hey I'm just wondering if there has been any movement or official response on this issue? It would be a really nice feature to have. The "source" filter is helpful, but means you'd have to repeat your search for every source you've purchased.
I want to add on to this - it's hard to find what is and is not allowed in certain books when you own all the content for character generations. Something to say where things come from and screen inside the character creator would be cool for subclasses and spells - right now we have have multiple tabs open while picking things to verify we are compliant and within a certain compendium book. The feature exists for race selection in the character creator.
It looks like (if I read this this response) they'll have a filter for only unlocked monsters in the encounter builder. Hopefully this kind of functionality will be added to the the general search for all searches. It does look like (from this response) there is going to be some kind of overhaul to the search interface in the future; so there's hope.
Not much to add, only here to cosign. I love looking at monsters when looking for inspiration, and clicking on something I don't know just to get "HEY, WANNA BUY A BOOK ??" is tedious at best.
Frankly, I own everything DND beyond except a few books as they come out. Even just being able to filter to see content I don't own would be nice, although the inverse would also be a critical function, in my opinion.
I second this request! I own a couple of the core books (Player's Handbook, DM Guide) and one adventure (Lost Mine of Phandelver) but I also own several smaller amount of content (Magic Items from Curse of Strahd, etc.) because I am a player as well as a DM. I have the Master Tier so that I can share all of my purchased content with my players and I would like to give them a list of what I actually own so they can use it as well.
Please make this happen. I bought the source bundle on Cyber Monday and now I'm actually using the site less because it takes me longer to sift through the books I own in the filter. I get that you want to show us what we're missing, but you have to let us turn it off.
In addition to the inconvenience, my son is running Waterdeep Dragonheist and I keep getting spoiled because every time I search magical items or monsters I see results from that campaign. It's just an incredibly frustrating problem on every level.
Why has this not been addressed? Is it a technical decision or a business decision?
Theres a place to vote for features to prioritize them. This feature is on the third page, and doesn't show as planned yet. Please vote for it so that we can get a bit more attention.

There is a "Source" filter in Advanced filters (for items, spells and monsters). Is that what you are looking for, or something more specific?
No, I am looking for something that is either default or can be enabled with a single click.
Are you interested into things you don't own when you are playing the game?

I hadn't even considered mobile, because I mainly use on desktop, but having to filter out every book I onw on a phone keyboard would be a nightmare.

(Thanks @OboeCrazy for this very helpful thread.)
Honestly surprised there isnt a "Owned content Only" tab. Seems like a critical design flaw in my opinion, should be patched in asap

Yes, please. My kindle doesn't show me Amazon's entire catalogue every time I view my library. That's essentially what's happening here.
