I cannot choose a feat for my human variant monk. I would also like to use this character in the Odyssey of the Dragonlords campaign and so I would like to make some mods to the character. But it seems pretty locked down. Is there an option to relax the security on the character so mods can be made?
There is no security on the character to relax. You can homebrew anything you like. If you are not seeing feats, I have to ask if you have purchased any content from DDB? The only free feat is the one in the Basic Rules, and that’s Grappler. If you haven’t met the prerequisites for the feat, you will not be offered the option to take it.

Hey IamSposta,
Thanks heaps for responding! I appreciate your help. I'm trying to add the feat "Alert" to my Monk. I do not understand how I need to "purchase" this. Do I need something beyond a basic subscription? It does not say so in the subscription benefits. Or do I need to purchase my books through this tool? I already own 80% of all hardcovers and I paid twice because I also own them on Fantasy Grounds. Please advise. Thanks again.

This website is not owned by WotC, it is another separate digital book retailer just like Fantasy Grounds. A subscription unlocks absolutely no content whatsoever. That’s why content is not listed as part of your subscription.
You have 3 options:
Repurchase the PHB from this website. (Full Version, $30)
Purchase just that individual feat. ($2)
Recreate it in the homebrewer as private homebrew. ($0)

Wow, thanks again IamSposta. That puts this tool out of my budget. I've tried purchasing just 1 feat and that seems to work, but this is beyond greed (WotC, not BD&D developers). Longing for the times of open licenses. I presume each player would need to purchase the relevant components for each character for a gaming session...
Net necessarily. They have a thing called content sharing, so if any one person has a Master Tier subscription and activates Content Sharing, then everything that anyone purchases from DDB automatically gets shared with everyone else. So if there is a DM and 5 Players and each person buys 1 book then all six people can use all six books.
Also, if you purchase things piecemeal then the total price of the product gets reduced by that amount. If you make 14 $2 purchases from the PHB, by the end you’ll be able to purchase the rest of the book for $2. DDB does make sure we get our money’s worth.
The thing is, this isn’t WotC’s fault either. This website is a bookstore. They created all of these free tools for us to use with the products we purchase here. Fantasy Grounds did the same thing. It’s like the free set of steak knives with purchase. Think of it like buying the same game for both PS and X-Box so you can play it on both platforms. You picked paper and Fantasy Grounds.
