There is no way to add origin feats to legacy backgrounds without manually adding them on the sheet.
Legacy backgrounds use legacy rules. No origin feat in the builder flow because anyone playing the older rules wouldn't get that. Just as with the optional rule in Dragonlance's book, adding manually is the way to do it. I don't expect that to change.

Coriana - Company of the Grey Chain
Wagner - Dragon Heist: Bards.
DM - The Old Keep
yeap , it`s bullshit, basically you can use the new rules only (and homebrew a lot if you like) or use the old rules
Here's a homebrew 2024 compatible background that just lets you choose whatever you want (feat, 2 prof, 1 tool, get 50gp): https://www.dndbeyond.com/backgrounds/407050-custom-2024-background
The stats don't work with older species.
Bro! Thanks so much for this
Basically, the ability score flow is as follows:
Background
New: Apply Ability Scores
Old: Check Species
Species
New: No Ability Score modifiers
Old: Apply Ability Scores
Abilities
If no previous Ability Scores, apply Ability Scores
Legacy backgrounds use legacy rules. No origin feat in the builder flow because anyone playing the older rules wouldn't get that. Just as with the optional rule in Dragonlance's book, adding manually is the way to do it. I don't expect that to change.
