Am I the only one that's annoyed that everything I've seen so far is white background with black text?
Perhaps it's just me, but I've always found web sites and apps that adopt this format to be annoying hard to read and painfully bright.
The brightness of the application, even when dimmed, is even more egregious when referencing the site during game hours. My gaming group uses a mildly dark room, with a large screen television displaying images and interactive maps. The adjustment between looking at the screen for reference and facing my players is annoying.
As I said, perhaps this isn't a problem for most people. I'm one of those people who uses the "dark" theme on everything if it has it (Adobe, SolidWorks, Photoshop); and is extremely annoyed when the option isn't there.
I do agree that a dark theme would be more aesthetically pleasing, but I think we're a little late in the game to make a feature like that. That said, it would be nice to switch between light and dark themes. Maybe have an easy on the eyes sepia theme to fit the fantasy feel.

Just a thought.
You're in the minority. It has been proven in several studies on legibility that it's easier to read high contrasting black text against a white background.
The fact that you're playing in a darkened room and constantly adjusting your vision to look at a monitor is the real issue here. You're doing it to yourself. It's not the fault of the site. Play with the lights on and this won't be a problem.

You can always offer color schemes as a User defined feature from their Profile settings. Different background colors, different text colors. May be also helpful for the phone apps too?

*Shrug* I'm of the opinion that software should be adaptable to the environment I'm playing in, instead of dictating the environment I play in. Perhaps other people prefer it the other way around. To each their own I suppose. I do think that the ability to customize the experience of the software will do nothing but help its long term viability, and I don't think I'm in the minority on that opinion.
Personally I love the white background, black text.
This is pretty much how kindles operate and I'm sure Amazon has done a lot of study on it.
As a bonus having anything else leads to issues and longer download times and data usage. Not if you are at home but horrible if you are using your cellphone.
I actually the contrast...but I am old...and color blind. The white background makes it much easier for the tags like blinded to show up and all of the different colored fonts that go with all of the tags.
Im legally blind and color blind. me and a lot of other but of course not all visually impaired gamers have a lot of trouble with the dark on light, and its a lot easier on us when its inverted. im not saying this has to be the default but having an option for accessibility, that could do this as well as adjust a color blind mode would be great.
Am I the only one that's annoyed that everything I've seen so far is white background with black text?
So, I just realised something. Mac or Windows, there's a way to reverse all the colours on the screen. Windows I think is choosing a High Contrast theme and on Mac it's in the Accessibility settings.

Hopefully a little customization would let us all view the site as we each individually prefer.
I can say, without attaching any childish threatening implications that are usually inferred (erroneously or not) by such a statement, that I would be reticent to use an app/site that is set up as white background/black text.
@dropbea8mybaby: I know about the high contrast setting, unfortunately, it makes everything look like crap when you use it. Unless they've updated it for windows 10, which I haven't looked at it on yet; I'll do that later. Thanks for the suggestion, regardless.

This. If every developer lived by this rule, there would be so much more win in application development. I personally don't mind the white/black high contrast, but I'm fully behind folks having choices and being able to play in the environment they prefer.

The difficulty with this conversation is that it's very different from most of the ones I've had of late. Which, as I explained, have mostly been with trees. ~DA
Sorry to bump this, but as someone who is autistic and possibly dyslexic, black text on white background is awful, I have to have brightness at a certain level and too much white on a screen make hurts my eyes.

Yeah, because Kindles never became color or gained the ability to adjust theme to keep themselves viable, which didn't really help keep them that popular either. And how do you figure that it causes any change in data usage? On what do you base this? It certainly hasn't done it for me with Youtube's dark theme, nor any other site I use with the option. Inverting it to be white text on a dark grey to black background cause far less eye strain in many situations I think.
Even Youtube has managed a dark theme at this point, it's just better and easier on the eyes in many situations. I personally never have Youtube in anything but dark theme anymore, even on my phone and tablets.

I wouldnt worry too much...
Psst... I've heard staff complain about the brightness as well. ;)
So I'm sure it will change a bit.

This has a good description with helpful links as to why dark text on a light background is preferred to light text on a dark background.

That being said I would probably prefer an inverted style for the website. But I have good eyesight and generally like darker themes for websites.

I personally like the layout as it is. Maybe in future a theme option or the like would be nice, but I'm not sure I'd make use of it.

Thank you for at least acknowledging that we want/need a dark theme. I hope it comes soon, but please don't rush it out if it's not ready.
Edit: I thought the post above me was from this year, if this is breaking the rules please delete
