I've been a DM for many years for 5e (and 1e), but the 5.5e content is not something I want. I did not buy the phb for 5.5e. I have no interest in the 2024 rules. I do not want to see any 2024 content because why do I need two versions of a spell IF I DID NOT PAY FOR THAT OPTION. I do not want an update to my campaign. I do not want a forced update to my content I paid for. I do not want my content made unusable (which is a direct violation of EU laws). Hide that content behind a paywall like you do for every other book, and let us buy into it if we want it. 5.5e force switch is making my paid content broken, and violates my rights as a consumer under EU regulations. Fix it.
You have access to the 2024 Basic Rules because they're free. You do "own" it.
Don't want to see it. I do not want to see those rules. They can make a toggle, they can disable it if you've not bought the 2024. But I don't want to seal with the extra spells or anything.
Personally speaking I do like having access to the Free Rules. Not really something I plan on using, but can sate curiosity when comparing 5.0 and 5.5 to each other.
But I do agree a toggle in the character sheet (and search functionality) to include/exclude 5.0 or 5.5 would be useful and a quality of life improvement.
there is not much difference between 2014 and 2024. but i do agree they need a toggle for 2024. because right now 2024 breaks every single characters on the beyond website.

For all the others, allow legacy and scroll down, it doesn't change anything, everything is tagged with sourced information (2014) including classes, spells and feats, aswell as tagged with a big "LEGACY" Tag.
DM's and players are responsible for using content their DM allows, it's always been that way, whether it's making sure your players aren't using critical roll or spell jammer, or other content you have disallowed, like fizbans spells UA content.
I don't want anything visible that isn't 2024, because those optional races, etc. are just confusing for new players who start with the 2024 version.
So yes, please give us a version toggle.
Toggle is in character creation, have your players unselect "Legacy" which includes 2014's outdated content
Except that hides basically all magic items which are in almost all books except the PHB. So until the new DMG comes out, it's difficult to turn off Legacy completely unless you lean heavily into homebrewing items.

That is an issue, adding those changes before releasing the DMG was a bad choice since the PHB contains no magic items

Not everything and not all the time. When you do searches, many "found" items do not indicate 2014 or 2024 in their search results entry.

I support this, but from the other side.
