I'm fairly new to D&D Beyond. I love the character sheet UI! Just click for a long bow attack roll, and the d20 is rolled and all the bonuses are automatically added. If the DM says it hit, one click and damage is rolled. It's smooth and fast and keeps the game moving.
I level up and select Beast Master with the optional Tasha's Primal Companion. Unless I am missing something, now I need physical dice and a pencil, because I can't roll an attack for my beast in the UI. HP is the only thing implemented in the UI, everything else is just a formula. It looks like the situation isn't any better for the original 2014 base Hunter's Companion, so it isn't just because I picked something out of left field.
There must at least be a way to just roll dice in the UI that I've missed, right? Then it would be UI for my hunter and paper for his companion.
BTW, I get that for experienced players this is no big deal. Half the group is playing with paper by choice.

While you cannot roll on its stat block in the character sheet, you do have digital dice on the bottom left of your character sheet.
Thank you! I don't know how I missed it. And thanks for the wording, now I know what to ask for - "The ability to roll for a companion on its stat block in the character sheet". Does that sound right?

So on topic. If there's room in your campaign. You could of added it as another character I believe. Since you could of made it's own stat block in a custom species from homebrew creations. and have a homebrew creation for the subclass as well. And just choose your class. You could even of homebrew feats that would be the Charge, Primal bond and other things I missed. And your custom subclass would be for it's level 7, 11, and 15 stuff.
And because it's your companion. And each one has min 8 int. you can easily have them have their own attunement items that don't affect yours.
Also, because of "If the beast has died within the last hour, you can use your action to touch it and expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher. The beast returns to life after 1 minute with all its hit points restored." If you only like or want to focus on one beast. You can just have it be equipped with items that can really be fun. Like Headband of Intellect so you can talk to your DM that because it has 19 Int. It should learn to speak with us. Since it can't benefit from the spell Awaken since it's base Int is 8 and not 3 sadly. BUT if you do want it to speak. You can always get a Belt of Dwarvenkind which will have the bear know Dwarvish. And now you have a medium reptile land beast that has a full beard. and it gains +2 con and resistance to poison. Or Gauntlets of Ogre Power for +19 strength set. Now you got a companion to fight with you.
And if you're already using Tasha's. You probably have crafting or it's available. something like from Kibbles' Crafting Guide or know of it. And they have some custom items that are fun as well. Like Magic diamond, if it's socketed to a weapon or jewelry like necklace for your companion. And it allows the user to be able to cast Force Bolt cantrip through it. Now you got a 19 int companion. firing force bolts from it's necklace focus. And because the Challenge scales with your proficiency bonus. And it's hit dice scales with your level. It's in it's own special category of companion and is the same level as you. And because how the cantrips work. At higher levels. 5, 11, 17. the damage dice is increased. Now you can make it even funnier. And have a tiny bird that's hiding behind you on your back. Or under your cape. And comes out to make a ranged attack with the Force Bolt cantrip. And takes total cover under your cape because it's tiny it can be in your space.
Since DND is basically like. Here's the information. We're not going to give you everything set in stone and leave things to work with another while within the RAW and RAI rules. There's a lot of fun things that's written and can be logically done based off the rules. And in what I described is all as written. Outside of the kibbles' crafting guide. But if you're using Tasha's it'd be weird not to have an artificer crafting. That's just me. But even then you're still able to have a companion have it's own 3 attunement slots. using items that increase stats permanently since you can revive it within 1 hour. And it's not like you're re-summoning it. And more room to have fun with it.

You have not missed anything. D&D Beyond has never implemented that sort of thing for pets/familiars/summons/etc.
