I came here to complain further about the lack of decimals, but after reading IAmSposta's messages, I'm feeling a lot less frustrated and a lot more grateful for everything we do have through DnDBeyond. I can't imagine trying to play online without this site to assist and speed gameplay along. Cheers to the dev team for keeping this running and cheers to you Sposta for helping guys like me understand the difficulties behind the scene

I feel like both things can be done. I am extremely grateful for this site's existance and it makes things a lot easier to run. But I'll still continue to campaign for it's shortcomings to be fixed. Adding decimal support may be a small thing, or it may be the hardest request. Fact is that we don't know until the dev team addresses it. So until that, I will continue to ask for it.
Shockingly, somehow, this still has not been fixed.
It isn't really shocking that having to restructure an entire company because of a pandemic, then having to restructure again because of a buy out has slowed down development.
At this point I'm not even sure if any of the original team that planned to add/support homebrew still work there. There hasn't been a dev update or any transparency since a few months into the buyout (typical WotC behaviour...). I wouldn't expect any new features added to DDB until they start updating for one D&D.
What's annoying about this one is it would probably take a single dev maybe two minutes to fix this, though depending on D&D Beyond's testing process you might need to add 10-15 minutes for testing and deployment, maybe send the change to someone for review. Though considering how often the character sheets were breaking earlier this year I dunno if they're as strict as that.
Unless someone really f'ed up then it's probably already using a float (decimal) to store the value, but whatever code validates the input is treating it as an integer (whole number) or rounding it, rather than keeping it as entered. Even if it's been incorrect set as an integer to store the value, it's an easy thing to change (you just have to be extra careful before doing so, as that's a database change).
Yeah, the issue on this one is that they don't care anymore. WotC owns the site now, and Homebrew isn't where they make their money.
I think they don't realize how many of us only use this site because of the ease of use of things like the homebrew tools.
It's actually not homebrew that this issue effects; you can enter decimals quite happily for weight in the Additional Information for a custom magic item.
It's custom items added directly to the character sheet from the inventory tab that don't support decimals, so that's not homebrew it's a basic feature of the character sheet. This is also different to regular items that you customise; you can set 0.1 for the cost or weight on these quite happily if you want to. So it's only custom items from "Add Custom Item" that are affected, and we know that items can support decimal costs and weights.
So if your DM tells you "you find a small golden skull, it weights 2.5 pounds and you estimate it might be worth around 100 gp" you either have to add that information as part of a note under Other Possessions (in which case it won't be calculated into your carried weight) or you have to add a regular item and customise it (name it "Golden Skull" set weight override to 2.5, then cost to 100) because custom item (which should be what you use) can't do it.

This is a great idea! I knew that other items had this level of control, but for some reason didn't put 2&2 together that I should just be renaming them to fit the need... I feel a little foolish for not having noticed this workaround sooner.

I am also here.
Am snek.
Hoping to see this as well; wanted to add apples of all things to inventory.

This needs to get fixed finally! Nearly 4 years and we still have this Problem AND IT'S THE EASIEST THING TO FIX!
It should also be possible to homebrew Custom Equipment.
yes please, I know you can fake equipment using magic items, but then they don't appear as options for certain things and you cant easily add a cost

Another BUMP... This needs to be addressed...
Please help us devs 🙏
I assume at this point it will not be fixed...

Exactly this, and it's so annoying because custom item is so handy in theory

4 years later and its still a problem
Here from 2024 and the problem still exists 👍
