+1 for me, I love having background and have spent a lot of time doing custom background elements, and while I can share in certain circumstances with my fellow players/party members during play, that's rarely the case.
If our characters have an in canon history and it's there in the description, it isn't breaking the RP that other players can see/read/know that info outside of sessions. It would also let them easily see the background of folks they play with when we don't have chances to share that during play.
Some details are also good for all players to know, like the appearance/height /age/weight as that will influence some aspects of social interaction, inter-social dynamics, and even some mechanics of exploration and such: "Why yes, my gnome crawls into the tiny mine shaft, asking your human fighter to follow and then climb down on a rickety ladder. He says, 'hey, youngster, get in here!' Oh, your human is 6'5", 350 lbs, and only 1 year younger? Huh, that didn't come up. Nevermind."
+1!! Would love to be able to have a more nuanced control on what other people can see on private view. Along the lines of that, would it be worth considering that when you set your character sheet to private, the only thing other players see when you're in the Campaign page is your character's name, player's name, and the avatar? There's been tons of times when my players want to hide their race, class, etc. for whatever reason but everyone can see even if their sheet is private.
There's definite workarounds with homebrew, separate campaigns etc.. but all of that increases the workload and usability of certain DnDBeyond features :(
Absolutely agree. I know the idea is to RP the characters, but sometimes we just want to get a quick sense for who the other characters are, and these small write-ups provide exactly that. Please consider putting in an option to always share this information!
+1 to this! In most cases, I want other players to see my character sheet in full. Campaign tools aren't as helpful because often I am among only one or two players using DnDBeyond in the group.
+1 for this. I'm running a campaign for my daughter, niece and nephew (ages 8, 8 and 11) so am managing their character sheets. Even downloading the sheet as a pdf only downloads the detail on the first page, which is next to useless when all of them have spells.
I know this thread is a little old, but I'm gonna go ahead and add my support for this also.
Same here, I'm surprised this feature hasn't been added yet.
Has my support o/

Another +1 for the toggle request for each section, please - two way or three way, either one would be great.
Thanks for all of the hard work...

+1. Makes the tool much less useful without it.
Man, I was really hoping this thread would have an answer. Oh well...
Maybe this is a bit whiny, but...
COME ON. This is an easy feature to add with a simple toggle switch. Please, listen to your users.
+1 for a share toggle/switch.
While we continue waiting for official support, I'd like to share a workaround for the notes section not being shared to other players.
A custom action is also an option

+1 I want this for my campain

Having an option is always nicer than nothing having it.
+1 it would benefit DMs a lot to be able to access their characters backstory through an option of private or non private
