Friend can’t see my characters background, appearance or any other information. Only the combat related tabs are visible when I send him the link of my character sheet with the share function of DnD beyond. Is there no way to make a share link that actually lets people see the full character sheet, the way I myself see it? So basically a share link like now to share your combat related stuff with your fellow players and a more detailed one with your DM.
I think it’s sad I can’t share the details with them especially with the description and notes section missing for them on my characters sheet when I use the share link. Or did I miss some kind of option to enable the creation of an advanced share link which will contain all information?
Hello SirAron, this is currently the intended function of the share link, however I can pass your feedback on!
If you are hoping your DM can access your background and notes sections, I would recommend they create a Campaign on D&D Beyond. The DM of a campaign on D&D Beyond can view the full character sheets of all characters in the campaign.
Oh that is a great help. We didn’t make a campaign yet since we were still planning and stuff we wanted to discuss the characters we made for us and our friends and so on, and wanted to make the campaign when everything was ready to see what characters we wanted to add and so on. So we were kind of disappointed when we couldn’t find a way to show the full sheet to each other.
But if I may say so, you already have the thing that pops up at the side when you click create share link prompting you to copy to clipboard. Why not add one more option to generate an advanced share link that shows all details. It’s kind of confusing having to make an actual campaign during planning phase especially since we are new to this.
So basically “Share with players” which is the same as it is now (maybe add the appearance section since the information of how someone looks should be visible to other players as well) and “Share with DM” which basically makes everything visible like details background items etc.
But anyway thx for the info. We already used the copy pasta method to simply copy all text into our chat which was kind of messy on our phones but XD. For the future we know.
A so we would need to make two campaigns if I would want to see his full sheet as well as giving him my one…..ye really needs the second more advanced share link in case you just want to show someone something than. THX for the info DxJxC.
The same character cannot be in two campaigns at once, so that wouldn't work. You could make a copy of the character into that campaign, but it wouldn't be updated automatically when the main one is.
I agree that you should be able to share it fully. put in a option for it. for example. i created my character on D&D beyond because I use it, I have spent money on it, but the GM I am about to campaign with doesn't use D&D beyond. I want to share my character with him before the game starts so he can prepare. Why should I have to send him in to create a profile just to see my character when he made a decision to not use beyond for his campaigns. Just throwing that out there.
I make a character sheet for every major NPC in my campaign. It serves several purposes for me as DM.
Character names, descriptions, notes.
For merchants, their Equipment section serves as their store inventory. I can customize value and notes on all items.
For non-merchants, their Equipment section lets me keep track of any items, gems, or gold that might be stealable or lootable.
When I add them to the campaign then the players gain the same benefits except they can't see the character's description or notes. Granted I wouldn't want to share it in all cases so I am glad that if it has to be stuck one way, it's stuck hidden. A toggle would be nice.
Yeah, it could be added to preferences right under public/private.
I think if the Devs are going to do anything with the system, they might as well just rebuild it with a 3-way toggle for each section (race, class, etc.) that defaults to "DM Only", with toggle options for "Campaign" and "Public".
This would greatly increase the ability to do actual roleplay within the party and have abilities, feats, race discovered through play. You could do the Three Gnomes in a Trenchcoat gag (https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/7zd363/one_of_my_party_members_turned_the_three_kids_in/) and actually see how long it takes your party to figure it out. Then, once they do, just pop over to the Home section of the character builder and set the privacy option for Race to "Campaign".
Ugh, the more I think about it, the more this needs to happen. If you could keep character sheets mostly private from the rest of the campaign, you could do 5e murder mystery one shots; Fantasy Clue.
SIgned! I would love to be able to share my backstory with the other players in my party. Just finished writing a long one (by my standards) and I'm surprised to so this isn't an option. Looks like I"m gonna copy stuff over to a word document, but that's a bit of a pain since everything is in separate boxes.

You can just ask the DM to copy it into the public DM notes
Also a problem when using https://beyond20.here-for-more.info/ my DM there wants to see my whole character. Only if I would share the link with other players maybe the only-stats option makes any sense.
I know it might be a marketing thing or so to not implement the whole visibility to share. But as long as dnd beyond does not support actual vtt games with maps and tokens etc. people will want to use dnd beyond cross-site.

Only the owner and DM can view the description, notes, or extras tabs.

Exactly what i meant its also nicer if you wanna use beyond for the sheet but hold the campaign in person RL and stuff.
The feature of having a full share link that shows everythign if you tick like a box or so is sadly missing
If you want to pass your character sheet to someone not using dndbeyond, just download the pdf and send them that.
Yes, an “On/Off” switch for that would be lovely.

I am also really missing this option. If you spent a lot of time on writing a background, it's a real bummer if noone can see it.

Would also love a toggle for this.
Yeah, it could be added to preferences right under public/private.
And they could add the “hide race & class” there too for people who prefer that.

Yes please, we need a toggle for these sections

I'd also like this so I can toggle on and off Backstory and thing!
