Why not just make the character with NPC in the name, go to your campaign, use the Join link and add the character as unassigned? Easily see it's NPC and is right there in the campaign for easy access. No limit to how many you can add.
Does exactly what you're asking for.

It can even be done if one uses "moster stat" NPCs, just differently: you can add a link to the NPC in the DM notes section. It would be nice, however, if there were a dedicated "NPC" setion of the campaign page that would let you add both types of NPCs.
I've been able to 'create unassigned character' in my campaign for NPC use for a long time now. When I got too many, I made a second 'campaign' just called NPCs and moved them all there to keep them sorted. Players don't need to see NPC sheets anyway, and if they do, I can easily grab the share url for each NPC as needed. This should work well for anyone, I'd imagine.
Go to other campaign, use Join link, add character, set as unassigned (or leave assigned to yourself).

This feature would be great as I'd be able to create NPCs in Character Creator then assign them into the different campaigns that I'm running.

Am I the only one who doesn't use character sheets for NPCs and instead prefers monster stats?

How did you move npcs between campaigns?
Assign to yourself, remove from campaign.
