Apologies for the delay in progress, but I’m excited to share that I’ve finally made an update to the interface!
What's New:
- **Tag Toggle Feature:** Tags now behave like toggles, allowing you to filter characters on and off as you select or deselect tags. - **Improved Sorting:** The sort functionality is working well with this update. - **Search Enhancement:** The search function now interacts better with the Tag Manager script and no longer causes the page to crash. However, it can still occasionally get into a stuck state where characters may become hidden or mixed up. If that happens, a quick page refresh will resolve the issue.
How to Install the Update:
In your browser, select the **ViolentMonkey** extension icon.
I have posted a new update to the dev version. The site's search function behaves well with the filter. However, when a tag is turned off, search matches will not appear until the tag is re-enabled, at which point the matching results will be visible.
It's absolutely insane that this request, one that makes a lot of sense to include, was asked about all the way back in 2020 and still hasn't been implemented into the website. Is this Feedback section of the forums even looked at or taken into consideration at all? Is there a point in it existing other than to just complain?

How would you implement it ? Folders, Filters, Groups ? would you use the search interface to access the characters or maintain some click UI ?
I could understand no dev wanting to change it, mane an unpopular change, even with good intentions would be condemned by the community. Implement a clunky folder solution that removed search, required you to dig into separate folders, each a seperate page and needing to load. it would not be a great user experience IMO.
you could sit back and wait for the dev's to do/not do something, or perhaps test things and give feedback & suggestions.
The second post in this thread from back in 2020 had a mockup which I tried to replicate as a functional example in the first version of the script. I found it functional but discovered it would have implications on the search and sort features of the existing site.
In the second version (currently dev) I find it to be cleaner & does not cause issues with the search and sort function.
not breaking existing functionality would be important, otherwise you just need to replace that as well as the new feature you wanted to implement.
now this works on a pc fine, but work is needed to make it work well on small laptops and mobile devices. I just tried and found it would not work as it is on a mobile, but I believe with some more work could be functional.
I would be happy with just about any organization instead of just the search option. It's absurd to me that they haven't added anything to account for this. I have preferences (tags and filters) but I'd be happy with folders or anthing similar. If I build a clunky folder system, that's my problem. Honestly, I'd even be happy with a simple Archive function/folder so I could move characters that aren't currenlty active but I am not ready to delete out of the main view. The idea of not doing anything because something might not make everybody happy is silly. Create a folder or filter system that we can use, but don't enforce it. Then people can leave everything in one huge jumble or organize it however they want. it's such basic functionality, I would be surprised if they don't have this sitting on a developers instance already and just haven't implemented it because they're too busy generating podcast type content that does nothing to help me play my game.

This post is a few years old, but would be so very helpful. Love the idea of character groups!
Just an FYI
Just logged back into my D&D Beyond account and check my characters page the google addin still there but all my tags are gone?
All characters are now untagged?
Still working for me,
I did make a boo boo which describes the issue you see I patched it the day after my first post.
did you update ? if you are using the ViolentMonkey extension it has an update function built in to check for updates.
If you have cleared your browsers local storage then it would also have cleared your tag data.
I have done more work on an updated version but been distracted with work, hope to release an update next week

If no major issues are reported, I’ll make this the main version which will update for everyone.
Thanks for your patience, and feel free to share any feedback!
