Other Adventures (to see complete list of shared adventures, only one can be active at a time)
combat tracker should be a collapsible panel on the far right or left, visible at any time by the DM & Players (of course players views are limited to what is revealed)
it is effectively the DM and Player screen clearly indicating.. all party members and important statistics, conditions, etc
condition and link to tokens on the map, just hit 'begin combat' to start the initiatives automatically or manually entered)
changes to player info is directly impacted on players character sheets online (ie, DM can go directly into player inventory and add something, add a condition to the player etc.)
players can see SOME info on the DM screen for purposes of combat - initiative order, conditions etc
some info needs to be hidden and perhaps could be revealed during combat ie monsters, names, HP, AC, etc
works in conjunction with D&D beyond maps can be used with external maps used
I need to be able to create variable scenarios that prepare for me what may, or may not, happen during a game. I need to be able to quickly and easily find the information I need in order to run the game. NPC names and links to their creature statistics, what core concepts they represent in terms of plot, and their core personality type and presentation. I need these to be presented in a way that is concise and to the point but allows me to expand it for greater depth if needs be. I need these to be clustered in appropriate areas with similar information for that area, what potential conflicts might arise, what events may be triggered by the PC's, and links to appropriate battle maps should a conflict erupt.
The presentation of these elements is very important. I don't want to be overwhelmed with information and walls of text unless I call for those as needed. Most modules fail at this because they can't present information in any other manner but on a website, these elements can be broken down and presented in unique ways that can tie in with the power of the site itself. The hover-overs, for instance, expandable menus, pop-up images. If I could have a single page that presented elements in small blocks with important information visible in each block that could then be clicked on to expand, that would be fantastic. As an example, imagine something a bit like the entries in the character sheet but combining some of the elements within the panels to create multiple panels. So the collapsable options under the Features panel combined with the presentation options in the Equipment panel. That way I could have things nested but grouped. So I could have one panel with multiple sections like the Equipment panel and title it something like, "The Village of Umlaut". Each tab could be titled "NPC", "ITEMS", "MONSTERS", etc. Within each tab you could have collapsable buttons like in the Features panel but which incorporate collapsable menus like in the Equipment panel. So I could click on the "NPC" tab, and in it there would be buttons for "TAVERNS", "MERCHANTS", "TEMPLES", then collapsable menus within each button entry like say under "TEMPLES" it would have several menus with titles like, "MYSTRA", "TEMPUS", etc. and then clicking on those individual menus would bring up hover overs for the NPC's, what the temple sells, any plot hooks about the temple, etc. all with clickable links that could take me to the full entries.
So I could build more than just one of these pages with multiple panels on it for each part of the area that is to be explored. Also, it's important that this be easy to put together. There are other sophisticated campaign management tools out there that do similar things but they require a high degree of investment and effort to make workable. I want to be able to click buttons and type in text and things work, easily, quickly and conveniently so that I spend less time organising a game than I do running it. For that, I would pay a subscription fee higher than the master tier fee.
The above is a quick and dirty example and I can already see some redundancy in it but it's hard to convey and map out in a quick example what I mean. I hope I've gotten the basic idea across though.
Ability to hide stats about items given to players. For instance, if they find a Pearl of Power or a scroll in a treasure chest, yet they haven't identified either, I'd like to be able turn on an "unidentified feature" where it just appears as "mysterious pearl" (or something) and "unidentified scroll". This would really help with storytelling and streamlining gameplay.
More audio/video features that will help with online/long-distance gameplay. The ability to build and show a map and then have the players be able to manipulate their positions and the DM be able to manipulate all other features of the map would be a literal game-changer within DnD Beyond. Also, some sort of audio and/or video integration to communicate without running a third party outside of the DnD Beyond site. Even if something like Skype, Allo, Google Hangouts, or something similar was integrated WITHIN the Dnd Beyond site, it would be incredibly helpful. Maybe pie in the sky, but we can dream can't we?
Campaign Chat: a place for players to chat over long rests, i.e., between gameplay sessions. Work in a little backstory, some reminiscing, and maybe even a little strategy? Maybe this is what group text and WhatsApp is for.
Here is my basic list, many of which I see are mentioned previously:
NPC Management - Simple 3 line NPC through complex fully fleshed out with stats and background elements. Common NPC fields like memorable attributes, motivation, secrets. (DM Only)
Story Management (DM Only)
Map Management with tagging (DM Only)
Encounter Calculator linked to Initiative tracker (DM/Player view)
Campaign WIKI (DM Private / Player Public views)
Online Image/mapstorage (DM Only)
Game Calendar / Timeline / Blog (DM/Player)
Player contact info (for coordinating sessions)
Session Calendar w/ email reminders and calendar updates (used to coordinate future sessions)
Campaign Forum
Export/Import to/from Fantasy Grounds and Roll 20 (Characters, NPCs, Maps/Images)
Appreciate you asking for our input and feedback. Awesome tool already and will just get better from here.
Being able to create a Web chart that we can create factions and tie NPC's to those factions. It would be nice if we could drag bubbles(with names of faction/NPC in them) around and tie lines between them so if a NPC had multiple faction relationships we could reflect that.
NPC management with at least 3 modes of sharing (possibly 4). 1. Not viewable by characters. 2. Only name/Faction visible. 3. Additional shared information. 4. Fully visible by all.
Ability to generate a DM screen with info you want selectable from a list of available options. Would be nice if once it is created you can then drag the sections of it around to have it set up the way you like. Some options could include a list of characters in the campaign that you could hover over and get popup window of important basic information. Name Generator. Conditions list. Initiative tracker. Many other things that have already been suggested.
NOTE: You will need to setup a zendesk account (which is not your DnDBeyond.com account, the team uses this 3rd party software). It's easy to do and your votes are needed!
Prioritizing the development of an ENCOUNTER BUILDER would be pretty great. It would really give this online tool significantly more worth. Some features I'd like to see:
Could create multiple encounters and label them, so when I go into that campaign I could just click on whichever one is about to begin
You could see a dashboard of all the enemies and the player characters (separated into the two groups perhaps, or we could order them) and a synopsis of HP, AC, etc.
You could set and see the initiative order
Could click on the monsters or characters to see in greater detail their stats and actions
Could easily change monster stats to fit the battle (for instance, be able to easily click on AC and just type in the new number) without having to copy the entire monster and edit all the info
Could build an encounter by hand picking monsters myself, or by using a tool that could generate an encounter based on party size, level, and difficulty of encounter (Like Kobold Fight Club)
The ability to hover over characters and NPC's created to get a "stat block" for them
This should include at a minimum ability scores, HP (current/max/temp), AC, Proficiency bonus, level
If there's room, proficient skills, senses, and languages.
The point is to be on the main campaign tab and have an "at a glance" look at character stats without having to load multiple pages up
I up voted this...then immediately skipped everything else (for now). I'd love Love LOVE full integration of the rollover pop-up text in the campaign manager.
Campaign management for PbP should include a section for a link to the thread, somewhere near the top, that way if the forums are busy, the thread can always be found.
Basic/free-to-use tier that only includes basic tiles and non-commercial use.
Subscriber tier adds commercial use license* and an expanded premium tile set.
Automatic random map generator that can procedurally create maps based on available tile sets and a couple user parameters like terrain/climate, scale, above/below ground/water, etc.
Optional: Paid expansion DLC tile sets (one-time cost) can be added to either free or subscriber tier.
Ability to customize tiles (colors, furniture, architectural features, etc.).
Limited number of saved custom tiles on free tier
Unlimited custom tiles in subscriber tier
* The primary intent, for me anyway, for the commercial-use license would be for generating maps for content for sale/distribution on the DM's Guild and/or Drive-Thru RPG sites. I haven't uploaded any content to either of those sites yet and this is one of the things I see as a roadblock to doing that. I'd rather not have to commission a map from someone that has those tools if I could do it myself. WotC then gets to double-dip on sales. Once to subscribers paying to access the map editor and again when the content is sold in the DM's Guild. This seems like it would be a no-brainer move for WotC.
