Hello,

I am new at playing this game but I've heard about D&D through friends and other fans through fan art and web comics. When I went to create a character I wanted to try to play, I saw that there were many that were mentioned on the website as options to play. However, in character creator those races are not on there, such as Tabaxi, Tortle, Orcs, Loxodon, and quite a few others. It felt very disheartening and like false advertising that they weren't up there, some my other friends who are starting out like I am, also had the same issue. Is there a reason why some of these races are not up there as options for players to make? I'm wondering if there is anyone else having this issue, if not just in America, but possibly other countries as well?

Those races are options that are not within the free, basic rules. Therefore you must purchase the books they are in, or purchase them a la carte. 

This is an online bookstore with a character builder. You have to purchase anything not included in the basic rules.

You will find Orcs & Tabaxi in Volo's Guide to Monsters and Tortle's in the Tortle Package. You can purchase the entire digital book or just the race you are wanting. 

I purchased the fiendish orc today, but it has not appeared when I create a character and pick a race, why?

 There isn't a "fiendish orc" race. What exactly did you purchase and from where?

It seems that the "Fiendish Orc" is a monster but not a race thus it cannot be used in the character builder. Only races can be used there.
