The only case I would see having the numbers added being really beneficial was if you plan on adding NPCs or more monsters mid fight, who will need their own initiative spot. Then it would be helpful to have the numbers at least down. Even if it doesn't automatically order it for you, just having a spot to put it might be helpful.
Also, I just noticed the encounter building isn't working. I just updated so i'm not sure how stable the build is but I fill out all the encounter information, go to hit OK and nothing happens. The window/lightbox just sits there until I close out of it or cancel it. I tested this with building an encounter starting from a custom monster, and using the link on a monster in the compendium.
I'm really liking the option to click the monster's abilities to roll them. It might save time if you are dealing with a lot of different creatures and you need many different dice.

Which version do you have, I pushed out version 0.6.0 and then noticed a lot of bugs. I pushed another update this morning that helped fix most of them. Should be called 0.6.2
EDIT: So if I go the number route, I just ran into an issue, what happens if two people get the same number?
Having a similar problem as Tekwhipley. All my encounters that I'd built have disappeared, and I'm having difficulty adding new ones. I'll double check to make sure I have the most recent version.

"If a tie occurs, the DM decides the order among tied DM-controlled creatures, and the players decide the order among their tied characters. The DM can decide the order if the tie is between a monster and a player character. Optionally, the DM can have the tied characters and monsters each roll a d20 to determine the order, highest roll going first."

I've got 0.6.2 with the encounter problem.
As far as the same initiative roll issue, I'd still lean towards the manual ordering, and just having a place to mark down what the rolls were. otherwise you could just have an error prompt come up and the dm has to go through and tweak one of the numbers. just increase the number for the person who actually gets to go first.
Or maybe have them sit like left to right instead of on top of each other when they match initiative. not sure how simple that would be cause i'm not sure how you have your containers set up.
I am not going to lie. I am SO sorry for breaking your encounters... I made major changes to them and I am guessing that is what broke it.
I am so sorry for making you have to remove and re-install my plugin, but I am guessing somewhere in the rewrite to go to open source I seriously screwed something up.
Please forgive me, I promise to do my best to avoid this for future releases.

No sweat man...These things are to be expected in 0.x.x code. I wish I knew more about code so i could better help with diagnosing issues. I am only a lowly sql coder, but if you need help with testing let me know.
I push all sorts of random updates to the Github, please feel free to download and add it as an unpacked extension. I would love the feedback as issues if you are truely interested.
Seems to be working for me again after re-installing as well. I've gotta say, I love this extension. One question this whole scenario brings up, though, is it possible to add functionality for importing/exporting encounters? This could be incredibly useful.

It is interesting you bring this up. I am working on another feature that requires exporting information so all of the code is already in place, I could easily add the ability to download an encounters file.

Oh yeah, I had a DM who liked that method. I usually find it faster to just call names and sort from there, but to each their own on that haha.
I agree that entering the numbers would be better. Seconded.

I had problems added encounters to the 0.6.2 version as well. I removed the extension and added it again and everything seems to be working fine now.

It's all good! No need to apologize. You are just trying to keep improving things.
