Hi all, when a feat, character background, class, etc. says 'choose one cantrip from the class spell list' but you've already chosen a number equal to your 'cantrips known' value is your choice of a new cantrip wasted? If I were the DM I'd change how this works entirely but how have others dealt with this. Thanks.
MilestoGo is correct. When you take a feat that gives you a new cantrip, there will be a drop-down tab in the feat's description that lets you select one.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

No, it doesn't count against the number of cantrips you know if it's a bonus from something other than the class Spellcasting feature.
