Okay, why was I unaware that boomerangs existed in d&d? Also when were they added? I just noticed them in the character creation and I got excited so I wanna know what book they are in.
I'd guess that they would not be, as it isn't actually in the Basic Rules or PHB. For AL, only the Storm Boomerang would be legal, as long as you obtained one by playing through PotA.

Boomerang claims it is in the Basic Rules, but I can't see it in my copy of them!

Ok, I have it figured - in the Princes of the Apocalypse adventure module, there is an item called Storm Boomerang.
To enable that to work, the devs created a base weapon called the boomerang. Range is 60/120.
