Hi all. I'm currently working on a wizard build, and while picking some of the provided character traits, I saw the one about collecting and reading poetry. I thought it was a nice little thing, considering the rest of his character is a bit dark and even evil at times. Then I had the idea that his spellbook and poetry book are one in the same. His verbal components being poems he's enjoyed or written himself. Any ideas on spell specific poems. They don't have to be long or incredible. His animate dead spell is that simple line, "death doesn't become easier, it only becomes more familiar" (I actually don't know what's it from). Or mirror image being "I am neither here nor there"
Confusion: “I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.”
See Invisibility: “All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.” or “Invisible things are the only realities.”
and if you fancy something slightly longer then Cause Fear/Fear or Dream: “Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.”

Bear in mind that poetic methods of speech are those which roll smoothly and evocatively, not necessarily in any form of rhyme!
For example, one could cast fireball by saying "with the fames that chew at the very bowels of the earth, I rend thee!" and I would consider that to be poetic. More so than "Skaboosh!".
See invisibility might be "Let the world lend me it's eyes, that I might see you truly".
Confusion: "Like the ivy strangles a tree, let thy mind be twisted and held fast!"
Identify: "May the wisdom of the ancients pass to me, that I might know your name"
That sort of thing. I find poetic language both more immersive and more believable than rhyming verse.

Things like that. Any good suggestions?
With being evil at times you might find some good quotes from Edger Allan Poe, link to sime quotes here: https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/4624490.Edgar_Allan_Poe

Not certain all of these are wizard spells but......
Misty Step, Teleport, Passwall, etc: "I took the road less traveled by and that has made all the difference"
Find Familiar: "Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter, in stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore"

A little Robert Frost:
Canto alla vita
alla sua bellezza
ad ogni sua ferita
ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty
To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me
The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!
Oooooh I really like those. Especially the invisibility one. How did I not think of Edger Allen Poe??
